Company's Offer

Pay freeze with a bonus? I say screw that. Correct me if I am wrong, but I would assume the bonus is not part of the hourly wages so it won't be part of the wages used for calculating retirement pay? I am not even close to retirement age, but I don't want the retirees of the distant future to get short changed. I would want the $3100 and $2500 divided by 2080 hours and have that added to my base wages so on the next negotiation we can build up from that, rather have the company use our current base wages as a base to bargain with.

I am a firat time poster, so here I go. If that is the contract proposal, and I say if, you hve to take it.

And trust me I would not be happy with it either but will take it. With oil at around 125$ a barrel, we will get nothing throough a new set of negotiations. In two years, we will see where this company is at. Then try too recoup what we have lost. But right now is not the time. The one thing that I am still mad about is the 35 million given to the execs. Now to be fair why not give the twu 35 million to split among its rank and file, now I do not know what this would amount to each member but I sure think it would be better than the 3500. Your thoughts

My thoughts? Your math is off by quite a bit. $35 million divided between 26,700 AA TWU members would be $1,311 each. Not better than $3,500.

Next.

AA is NOT losing money. AA keeps Cargo seperate and attempts to act if the two, cargo and AA, are completely different. We are not. Let a BK judge look at the way AA hides the numbers when they threaten a possible BK.

AA lost money last quarter and AMR lost money last quarter. AA doesn't break out Cargo expenses (only cargo revenue) so it's impossible to tell whether cargo was profitable.

Yeah I did not take the time to do the math. So thanks for that info.

I started ranting on that other post I did, and sorry for that. But I am looking at the reality of the situation. For the poster who said, "lets shut this place down". Get real. Where would you find a job at these wages right now. 🙄

Unfortunatley, wee are really not in the drivers seat. Are contract is up in the middle of a recession, fuel is at an all time high, etc, etc. I would be satisfied with this as long as there are no more give backs in this proposal.

In two years we try to get something back. My first concern is my job, I have nineteen years with the company, and would like to finish my career here. As long as we keep our jobs during a recession, I think that is an added perk.

For the lady that filed BK, I am truly sorry, I have been in dire situations before as well, but look for the light in the tunnel, it will take a couple of years, but hopefully it will work out.

I love to read about how someone who can do better and not have facts when they speak. I can tell you a few. They went in to negotiations trying to snap back the '01 contract and more. Now that is a fact and now if you or the committee thought that these AA scumbags would even consider that, we all are in trouble. I am sure that they are trying to get the best they can out of the company and when they say up yours then they have to make a decsion and when they do it, is not for a few or yourself, it is for thousands. It is easy to say no my friend. So with that said. I want them to get the best deal that they can and then let ME decide if it is worth taking or send them back. If there is money on the table, I do not want them to decide for me. When the scumbags say this is the final offer and I could go who knows how long without anything and there is some improvements, then I want to decide. So I expect the TWU to get the best offer and then let the membership decide. Unlike other unions that went years. Sometimes you have to live to fight another battle. Couple other facts: It is 5% upfront at signing. 3.5% the next year. Holidays you have right the double time but one more this year (day after thanksgiving )and then add two more next year ( MLK & memorial day ) for eight at 2.0 next yr. Sick : 1 more this year and then 2 more next and yes for the Amt's full pay. The vacation days are correct. 3 more and to be floating. And a couple of things that alot of people were very scared of. No changes to retirees and medical and pensions. That my friend is not nothing as you said. That is money on the table at a time when it is very hard to get any. So I expect them to let us decide and then we as a union will make that desicion. I know it is not alot but it is not nothing.

Nice post, my sentiments exactly. To get anything, in these trying times is a bonus in itself. Lets hope things work out for the best for all those involved. As of what I am reading true, I would be happy(not excited). Lets hope it works out.

Any TWU member who would vote in favor of a contract which would include this offer is a FOOL! We have sat back long enough while the big wigs have gotten fat with greed and it is our time to reach into the cookie jar.

Stick your hand in the cookie jar and they will slam it on your hand

Thanks, yes that is the facts as they are today. I should have mentioned also that the company tried to changed several other articles that would have had an impact on us and they have done a good job of not letting that happen. There is also a much improved profit sharing plan starting at 250M instead of 500M, now of coarse that doesn't seem likely to happen this year but who knows next year. But for this to happen all title groups have to ratify, not sure if maint can hold the whole thing up or not. They are not on board yet. But if one group gets something after another group they will still get it. So maybe better safe than sorry in these times.

Do anyone read the papers or do you all think that the INDUSTRY is doing well and that there is money to be made. we are in a world of #$@! fuel is killing every airline, sure we made some money for a few years and no body gave us a taste our guys went in to grab what we lost when times were good, look what has happened in the last few months. Climate has changed boys, you can walk around with your blinders on but the team better grab what they can and let me vote on it before fuel hits 150 a barrel, laugh but see what happens in a few months. we need a little relief right now, this job needs a little cherry on it, hope the amfa attitude has a tight lid on it or our cookie jar will be placed on the top self out of reach, Oh and I heard that the bonus was pensionable, but that could be a rumour wait and see what our boys bring to us before we storm the castle.

kudos, and we have another great post

I can put another fact out and that is that you are correct the bonus is pensionable.

bigdawg and twufleetman,

Thank you for the laugh. You defence of a proposed extension and "well, it's better than nothing" posts indicates that you are both (if not the same) twu bootlicker who will do and say anything to sell another bite from the $#!t sandwhich. Typical anonymous post crying "the sky is falling... the sky is falling".

When will you, meaning twu international wannabies, understand that THE WELL IS DRY when it comes from the AMTs? Last night the subject of an extension came up and the feeling was mutual all around... you know what that sentiment was but still peddle snake oil.

ANYTHING but the return of what was taken PLUS adjustments for inflation PLUS a raise will result in a NO VOTE. Defend the company all you want. The twu has used its bag of tricks too many times. ANY sandwhich placed on a plate with the twu's blessing will result in change. 😉

As I was posting. I was just putting some facts to the rumors. We would not be the same and I did not back anyone. But leave it to the people that have the most to loose. Title I and drag Title II with you to think you are going to get a return of everything and PLUS. I just expect the TWU to let me decide. Anyone with a brain can see what is going on in the industry as a whole and I hope that your group, as you seem to be Title I, good luck with your big balls. There is no tricks, just decisions that can effect members lives and families. AA would love to have a reason to contract out some work. TWU and American has kept all of that overseas work here and I don't see that happening for ever. But in 2003, it was your group that said just lay off our members and keep my money. I am glad I am not in that kind of mindset. Don't get me wrong. I hope anyone can get what they can and will never wish any group ill will. If the Maint group votes not to let the members decide on the last package that is fine with me. I just believe that the members should see the whole package and decide on their own. I know our group will let us decide and I wish you luck getting more. If, which I doubt, there ended up a chart rate too, we would still get it. So roll those dice baby. I really do hope it works. And if it gets turned down in our group, I'm ok with that too. It's not much, but it is money that might not be there later and like I said I want to see the whole package before I decide anything.

Wow, what are the odds of three twu yes men joining USAVIATION on the same today, and each patty each other on the back? Looks like they finally found a new job for Gary Yingst.
