I always suspected as much but never saw a survey that addressed it. I remember when I was in high school the theory was never really explained in detail. When I went to college and took a anthropology class (I think) we went into detail on the theory and it made sense. I wold guess that a decent number of the people polled with a High school education or less do not have a accurate understanding of the theory.
