Mr. Lakefield. You came out of retirement to do what? Save an airline? Save jobs? Just why did you do this to yourself? Did you really believe just because of your background that grown man and women that have their lives invested in a failing company would listen to you, a newcomer with zero airline experience?

You have Mr. Bronner standing behind you shouting all kinds of threats and innuendos only expressing concerns of a state U employees could care less about, and then you express frustration with the U employees? What gives?

The U employees have been through more in the last several years then some solders faced pulling active service duty, and you wonder why employees are leery, weary and doubtful of your words?

I thought they said you were a smart fellow, what can you really expect from individuals who have been on a perpetual emotional roller coaster years on end that never stops?

Your plans for a new improved airline don’t include most of the people who made it possible for you to even be here and yet you get on the wire weekly and rant of how frustrating your job is trying to rationalize with the employees! You’re kidding, right?

Well I know you are not kidding, and that is the scary part and that’s why you should have never taken this job because, Mr. Lakefield, unless you can perform miracles and make people sacrifice themselves willingly, the plan you are presenting will never pass muster with the employees because you are not inviting them to join the party. The only ones that will win are all the new and recent management team and the employees close to retirement age, all the others will be lost, as lost as your calls are for the U employees to listen to you.

To bad we couldn't woo Herb Kelleher out of retiement & get rid of this clown!

You know, you could do better than Herb Kelleher.

Lamar Muse is ready, willing, and probably able to ride to the rescue. He offered to take the job as CEO at AA when they unceremoniously dumped CAArty.

Who is Lamar Muse, you ask?

He's really the guy that made Southwest what it is. Not Herb. Not Colleen. It was Lamar. He built something so durable and idiot proof that as long as Herb didn;t mess with it too much, it would be impossible to screw it up.

Before he built Southwest.....he salvaged Central...which was arguiably the local service airline with the ultimate in bad route networks...but he had them making money flying to places like Coffeyville, Kansas and Duncan, Oklahoma. Then the guys who owned Central sold it out from under him.

He also turned around Universal, had that freight airline making basketloads of money before the owner (it was privately held) decided that Lamar had no idea what he was doing and against his will, bought a bunch of 747s and DC-9s.

Some of you may remember MuseAir. Those of us close to the situation understand that it was Mike Muse's airline, not daddy Lamar's. And if Lamar had put his youngest daughter in charge, it would probably be the largest domestic air carrier and Southwest would have been in a world of hurt. But he didn't.

When Lamar volunteered to take on AA, all he asked for was to pay his living expenses at an apartment in Dallas, pay him the wage of the most junior Flight Attendant on the premises, and give him basketloads of stock options so that when he turned it around, he could make some REAL money.

In short, he's a leader and he's never been a smooth-talking shark of the boardroom. Which is, of course, why USAirways would never hire him and they will never be cured of what ails them. A lack of leadership.

He also was.....fired from the Southwest presidency when he attempted to oust founding member Rollin King and take control of the board..............

Was never able to generate a consistent profit, even though he relied on nonunion labor from the beginning and offered fares comparable to those of Southwest........

Offered money-back guarantees on tickets and free flights for heavy smokers who turned in packs of cigarettes...............

Hey, but at least he has airline experience, which is more than Mr. Lakebottom and Boomer at RSA can say.

At this point I would give anyone a shot, well almost anyone. ;)
