Dividend Miles benefits returning

LOL...Ouch!
Yes, the pool of business travelers may be smaller, but US has reduced it's pool to a kiddie pool full of urnine while their competitors have welcomed US's unhappy high yield customers with open arms.

You should really let go and move on and post on the CO board. You have moved on and we are all happy you have found a better airline.

It might do you some good to let go of your frustration and move on to a better place and forget US. You also change your name to CO1YFARE.

Bingo. This, IMO, is why such drastic steps were taken, in hopes of other airlines matching. Again, I do not believe that any company executives would take great pleasure in taking away benefits if they were not worried about their companies long term viability. Did they overreact, or was it just a foretelling of things to come? we shall see....

The pool of biz travelers is indeed shrinking, and I think it is, unfortunately, just beginning.

I have yet to see an lucid explanation as to how the elite bonus mile and 500 mile min elimination was supposed to drive higher revenue or to save substantial expenses. Perhaps you could articulate just how those moves were expected to increase revenue? Or reduce costs?

The truth was, a management that is completely clueless took action that probably reduced revenue and had negilgible effect on costs.

As BoeingBoy has pointed out, US has shown seven straight quarters of last-of-the-pack unit revenue growth. And the answer to that is to take away elite frequent flyer benefits?

Time for a drug test for Dougweiser and anyone else who believed that gutting the frequent flyer program would actually help US. It was probably the worst move an airline could take.

US could have left the earning part alone and quietly tightened up redemptions - which they have probably already done anyway - without making their disdain for higher-yield flyers so obvious.

Don't know if it's lucid (personally I think not  ) but I can come up with an explanation....

US hands out less miles by dropping the minimum/bonus miles. FF make up for the earned miles lost by flying more (generating revenue) or spending more with DM partners/credit card (generating revenue).

I don't think that they ever considered the alternative - that FF's would just take their flying elsewhere.

I've defended US quite a bit over the years. But, the loss of bonus miles struck me as odd. I decided to see if other airlines followed suit, none did as far as I know. So as soon as I hit 100K this year, I put all business back on NW/DL. Given other airlines were not following, US really had no choice but to rollback that change.

(The 500 mile minimum issue did not bother me.)

Amen, Van. I feel the same exact way and have had the same experience. US after the merger was like losing a family member, but I had to move on because it wasnt' the same airline that I knew for all those years, being a member back to 1984. As a multi-year Chairman, I cut ties at the end of 2006 and have flown maybe 6 segments since then. With 99% of my flying to United
Well UPNAWAY,

During my run as an Elite with US...there were some times when I was "Silver" or "Gold" with just about everyone...CO, DL, NW...and I always felt like I was cheating on US. I NEVER felt good about being "elite" on another carrier. Ever.

US took me to weddings (including my own, where I actually married a former PI F/A), funerals, jobs, promotions...you name it, I did it and I did it on US.

When the Sand Flea infestation started, I for one was THRILLED! Little did I know...I had only flown HP once...I had NO idea the Sand Flea infestation would actually take the WORST of both airlines...and combine them...and then arrogantly look down at FFers as if we are a bunch of nuisance people who the company would rather be without.

So please UPNAWAY, spare me the arrogance of a silly and dare I say "stupid" answer to the question you answered by saying "no."

Unitl you've logged 100,000 miles a year PLUS as a customer on multiple carriers every year for 20 years, from my vantage point, you are just as arrogant (and clueless) as the other Sand Fleas....

Thank you.

P.S. - There are airlines that do nearly everything right....in my world they are known as CO and WN.

P.S.S. - Here's to hoping they are finally getting it in Tempe....I'd LOVE to actually choose US as opposed to being stuck with them on occassion.
