Actions will speak louder than words, sounds good so far. After 7 or 8 ceo's it kinda gets old. 🙁

True, actions do speaker louder than words........did you attend? Was it the same old stuff or something new?

And Siegel seemed sincere too and he turned out to be the worst CEO with his actions towards labor.

I attended the Tuesday afternoon show...and Yes he was welcomed ..and for the most part well recieved.

Doug comes off as very genuine , candid...and very plain spoken. The ordeal was very low key by former U standards...past CEO's had stages set up that looked like a night at the opera...Doug had his scripted slide show...and cracked a few jokes here and there...and some were even about himself. Yup...he was trying to get people to lighten up from the start..he knew the tough questions and comments would be coming.

Doug touched on the industries state...U and HP's state pre-merger and post merger.

Doug commented that U was all but done for...and HP was going to follow suit , without a big move.

Doug was questioned about whom bought whom very directly..His first comment was, Does it really matter? The questioner pressed him...and the awnser was this. USAirways is the surviving airline, HP is part of the USAirways Group..but in a nutshell , the $900 Million put up by Barclays , Airbus and GE is what bought both companies. Nobody was interested in loaning money to either U or HP in as a stand alone company..collectively...WE are worth the risk combined.

Doug stressed the need to get PHL straigtened out...and the immediate measures are all about new equipment coming in..and it will all be there by 15 Dec. 2005.

Doug stressed the need for both parties (US and HP) to pull together as a team until the merge and single carrier status puts us together in its final form.

Doug was pleased about our combined results so far...but stressed that we still had a long way to go.

Doug was questioned real hard about Al Crellin..and a 36 year veteran of U whom worked with Crellin in the beginning at PSA stated that Doug's choice of Crellin was a horrible mistake. The rooms reaction supported these comments. Doug stated that he needed Crellin's Institutional knowledge and asked everyone to not focus their anger at one person...unless its him.

Doug also stated the need for a change of culture...and if his management heads can't accept and react to the changes in culture...New Heads will be found.

Doug stated the need for people to be able to feel free to act in a positive way without fear. "Bias towards action"

Doug dabbled with the issue of Maintenance and outsourcing..He like Crellin a week or so before him stated..The IAM Contract means more work will come inside...with the IBT , Well , you know the story. (sorry Kids , his words not mine).

Doug stated that Flight Crew Training will likely have to be conducted in both CLT and PHX ..as niether he thinks , has the space to combine the operation...he also said that building a new place to house it all wasn't un-thinkable..but unlikely.

Doug was questioned about what Computer system will be used for Maintenance...This is still in debate as both systems have their merits...but it does look like the HP systems across the board will be used...and done "In-House" as opposed to Outsourced at a rediculous price such as what U entered into with EDS and Sabre.

These are just a few things that come to mind...as I do not feel comfortable with questions involving customer service and flight department related...that someone else is better prepared to comment on.

My take is this...We Gotta give this man his chance to make good...Cuz the reality is this...What other choices do we have? Should he prove to be nothing more than what we've had before? ( which a pray to God he's not)...The financial situation will dictate what happens next to the combined company anyway.

I remember when Davie boy stood in front of me in the CLT hangar and stated…

“ I will be the LAST CEO USAirways ever hasâ€￾.

I’ll leave the rest up to you but their all alike….!!

SL

doug also stated no growth in the immefiate future until we start making money. Other than the few planes they had coming in on the HP side and the 20 orders for the a350 to come in 2011 (which are replacement planes anyway... his words) Until we make money.. we will not grow.
But when we do make money.. we will think about it.
makes sense
at least he was straight about it

So with that comment, I'm assuming that you're off to start your own company? Because if you never trust one CEO, no matter where you are..then you are setting yourself up for a life of misery. You probably need to jump ship and become your own boss.

I was at the CLT meeting and was happy with what I heard AND saw. Unlike CEO's of the past, I sense his sincerity and am impressed that he is man enough to let us know that our trust and respect will have to be earned. He stated that we had no reason to trust him but to give him a chance.

There is something about Doug that I like and I choose to go with giving him a chance. The negativity has done nothing but make me physically sick. I do feel he is here to actually run an airline and unlike Dave, has a proven record in the airline industry where MOST who speak of him do so in a positive manner.

I like Doug's layed back approach and the fact that he can laugh about himself. Yes, he will have to prove himself, but we will need to at least give him a chance. Just remember, short of a few of our guys, the Tempe team is now in charge..not CCY, so this is NOT the same management we are use to having.

What you see with DP is real. He's been a breath of fresh air since Bill Franke left.
