What's new

EAST VS WEST

sky high states: NEVER LISTENED? Uhh, USAir added FIRST CLASS and glassware. Changed galley configurations, changed serving procedures to blend all the airlines together. Ohh, lets NOT forget your RAISE!
Past MERGERS have always created tension between the labor groups of perspective airlines. What didnt work, was the whiney attitude of those Piedmonsters who consistently said, "oh, well, at Piedmont, we didnt do it that way."
And, sadly, that lasted for like 15 YEARS!!!!! The "southern" employees bashed their own airline out of retaliation for the merger!
"Where ya based?" became the way of HOW YOU WERE TREATED.
The North versus the South mentality existed, and still does.
THE COMPETITION IS GOING TO EAT THIS UP, LIKE IT DID IN THE PAST, IF THE CURRENT EMPLOYEES CREATE THIS "WORKING ENVIRONMENT" AGAIN!
Yeah, USAir did it great. Closed SYR, GSO, BWI, MIA, SAN, LAX, SFO, ORF as crew bases. Gave away California (PSA...the most expensive MD-80 purchase in American history), threw out the Piedmont Florida Shuttle (made a profit in the third week of operation, Colodny chucked it), tried to serve Salisbury steak between LAX and LAS (that went over really well since PSA crews had never seen a genie tray until merger day), and with that raise you talk about came soooo much success. But I digress, this is about Tempe and the east.

I really want what's best for everyone, I just don't want Tempe to throw the baby out with the bathwater. Although there was nothing perfect about the "old" US Airways, we did some things quite well. Our training department is one of the best in the industry. Several airlines come to CLT to learn from us. For an airline that has always seemed to be a follower, that says a lot. Yet all we get from Tempe in regards to the CLT Training Center is "we're looking at keeping it". Its statements like that that cause alarm.

If you take something "with a grain of salt", that means it doesnt mean much, a gain of salt is minute, but a five pound bag of salt would mean its of considerable value.

Is that what you meant?
Guess it all depends where you're from. A grain of salt is tiny and it will only lessen the bitterness a little bit BUT if you have a 5 pound bag of salt, the bitterness will almost go away. That's what I meant. Sometimes you got to be able to take the bitterness out of it all so that you can see the real issue. And then become informed and vote.

If east and west dont start working together, this merger, buyout or what ever you want to call this thing is not going to work....East was just about ready to get the "Last Rites", West was probably going to go on life support in a couple of years, consider this a new life. If you really need to blow off some steam get a ticket to the Jerry Springer show and threaten to beat up some idiot making a fool of him/herself on stage.....You people have proven in the past that your the best, but the past is over, show everyone in the industry that US is here to stay!!!!

I think Clue by Four characterized it rather eloquently....
he said something to the effect of tying the Titanic to Parkers airline....the jury is still out....

You all act like you own the airline...We dont own it . We are just employees. My father worked for this airline for 35 years and I have 22 years so thats a combined 57 years that its been a part of my family.

Its time WE ALL got to work and quit b''''' , Im sick of hearing about piedmont and psa and usair and AWA...

We are all one combined company, accept it and move on.Quit your freakin complaining.I ve spent my whole life
in way or another reaping from Usairways and they have been a good provider , they have provided a modest living for all of us, granted we need to be paid more than we currently are but our time will come.

I have heard sooo much complaining over the years about how are brother airlines did it....truth is we are not in charge we donot own it and we all need to learn how to take orders and quit bi'''' and get are a''' to work...if you spent half the time you spend bi''''' on your job then we would have a lot better place to work...You all cause undo stress on those of us who are glad to have a career.

I know its not all gravy ,,,,it never will be...lets all get along and make this airline sucessfull for our future.
AND IF YOU DONT LIKE IT QUIT.....

If i was in charge you all wouldnt have time to bi''''
I would make you all work so hard youd be thankfull to have time to spend it with your familys. What you all need is a STRONGER WORK ETHIC.

YOU ALL SOUND LIKE A BUNCH OF WOMEN...REAL MEN DONT COMPLAIN THEY WORK TO BUILD A FUTURE.WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME ANY OF YOU DID A HONEST DAYS WORK?

GET REAL , GET YOUR A'' TO WORK AND QUIT B''''
AND WHEN YOU OWN THE AIRLINE THEN YOU CAN SAY HOW IT SHOULD BE RUN...
Count your blessings

WE ARE ALL GROWN MEN ...SO ACT LIKE IT

ASK NOT WHAT USAIR CAN DO FOR YOU BUT WHAT CAN YOU DO FOR USAIR..OR BETTER YET ....QUIT.

BUNCH OF DAMN COMPLAINERS......GET TO WORK..

They never listened to anything that worked for PSA or Piedmont. I worry that its happening all over again.

Now go hiking. It'll be 125F before you know it.

From a maintenance perspective both US and AWA practices are being looked at by a team assembled of US and AWA employees. Best practices are being chosen. What else can the company do to ensure the best survives? The system is not perfect. Just remember there is more to the New US Airways than most of us can see outside our cubicle.

Not gonna get into a tit for tat...the person who started this thread asked why their were anti-west feelings. I simply stated why I am concerned. After all, I (along with about 23,000 others) went through the USAir "cool northern efficiency" battle when we Piedmonsters were merged into the Pittsburgh way. They never listened to anything that worked for PSA or Piedmont. I worry that its happening all over again.
Blah, blah or as the "Speedbird" would say brruuckk, brruuckk, brruuckk...

One thing I am going to warn the "Westies" of..."Piedmonsters." Take it from me, when some former "Piedmonster" starts talking about "how great" Piedmont was I guarantee you'll be comatose in no time. Be prepared, get earplugs and practice that blank look in your eyes when you come across one. It's a close encounter you'll want to forget. It's time to get the flock outta here...

Yes, we do, in some part. Whether it's stock or time invested. Maybe if you felt more or acted more like an owner, it would be better.

YOU ALL SOUND LIKE A BUNCH OF WOMEN...REAL MEN DONT COMPLAIN THEY WORK TO BUILD A FUTURE.

Yikes!!

WE ARE ALL GROWN MEN ...SO ACT LIKE IT

Yikes, again!!
Glad I'm not easily offended. 😀

Yeah, when you worked for a great airline, got constant praise from your customers, Air Transport World, the US gov't, and JD Power and Associates, kinda hard to forget about it. Sorry. Haven't felt that way since 1987.

Stuck in the 80's is no way to go through life. I feel for you man.

sky high states: This THREAD isnt about bad management decisions of the "past". It's about EAST Verus WEST. Anyone remember those first group of transfers into Charlotte? They were shunned, mistreated and basically harassed. Pilots wouldnt put their employee numbers into acars. I remember a US flight attendant was injured when someone placed their bag behind her legs and another flight attendant caused her to step back and FALL. FORMER Piedmont Pilots blaming the delay on USAIR over the PA system to passengers. Southern employees upset because USAir wouldnt incorporate the "Speedbird" into the new paint job. Ohhh, and lets NOT forgot the pilot issues back then, "date of hire" verus slotting mantra.
And lastly, the making fun of your CO-WORKERS.......the BIG BOWS in your hair versus........BIG HAIR in PIT.

THIS MANAGEMENT CANNOT under-estimate THE IMPORTANT OF
CREATING HARMONY BETWEEN THE EAST AND WEST.
