US Airways to roll out self-tagging in Montreal

US Airways passengers flying back to the U.S from Canada will be able to save time at the airport by tagging their own baggage.

The carrier will introduce self-tagging at Montreal-Pierre Elliott Trudeau next month.....

Sounds like a possible grievance

Did you see UA is now going to charge $25 to check a second bag?

Oh, this looks like a plan. Now you can blame the customer for his own lost luggage! 😛h34r:

Skywest probably will buy Mesa out hopefully and end the nightmare of every Mesa employee who makes less than 50,000 a year.

My understanding is that it doesn't apply to Mileage Plus members with status, Star Alliance members with status, higher fare tickets, and international trips. I wonder how much more people will try to bring onboard with this new rule.

SpanAir has been doing this for the past 4 years actually when I fly out of BCN. When you check into the Kiosk the bag tag comes out of the front of the machine and then you throw your bag on the belt. However, if you choose to use a TA there is no charge. At the kiosks there are no lines when I was using it.

I would find this useful if I saw that the line was way too long and I was running behind schedule or if there was a schedule change and you did't want to wait.

The problem I have with this is that US would probably force people to use this and SpainAir does not. You get the choice at SpainAir. Also US would probably only have 1 kiosk for this and the line for that would be completely backed up.

Well here's my two cents worth.

What's to prevent the passenger from claiming lost baggage?

I can see it now, check in..get 3 bag tags...don't attach bag tags to empty bags...then claim bags were lost and get whatever the going rate is for a lost bag.

Duh??

Sorry I fogot to mention. When you throw your bag on the belt someone is there to make sure there is a bag tag attached. They look at the final desination on the tag and they ask you if you are going to that destination.

So who is going to moniter the tags being printed? Let's say I hav a bag to check-in but I ask for twp tags. I pocket one of them and put the other on my bag. Get to my destination and ask "where's my other bag?"

Where is the person to make sure that doesn't happen?

I hate to say this, but it almost looks like their going to make the passanger responsible for everything. If you don't know what's allowed past security, who gets blamed if that expensive bottle of wine or cologne gets taken away?

This may also turn a profit if they charge the customer to locate his bag that he lost. It looks like Uncle Sam found a way to tax one for being stupid!
