F/A Jumpseat Policy at AWA is first come, first serve unless both flight attendants show up at the same time then it goes by Seniority.

AT HP, you can jumpseat wearing casual clothes (no jeans, shorts, sandals etc.) and you don't have to work the flight.

AT US, I heard you have to be in Uniform and you have to work the flight. Is it true?
 
Incorrect. You do not have to be in uniform or work the flight. In fact, if you are MAA, you are not permitted to work, even pick up trash... even though you used to work on those planes and are still qualified.

And jumpseaters should'nt help out when there are over 2000 F/As on MAA or involuntary furlough. When all of our F/As are back, an extra F/A is great for the crew and customers... but no free work while people are out in the cold.

It's by seniority, which is supposed to cut off at a certain time but is not really followed.
 
and at US j/s policy states-coach class attire. Jeans and tennis shoes are OK. Your ID must be displayed at all times.
 
The F/A jumpseat is supposed to be awarded based on seniority at the time the agent closes the flight ... usually, but not always, about 10 min. before departure.

How does a commuting Flight Attentant not helping her coworkers on a full flight get someone recalled? Is this or any other airline going to put more than the minimum number of F/A's required by the FAA on a flight?
 
Actually, at HP business attire is required for riding the jumpseat.
No blue jeans, sandals, sneakers.
Jumpseaters do not help with service.
 
At US, we used to have a great policy were the J/S was given out at 30 min. prior to dept. to the most senior F/A. That way the J/Ster could get on, stow their bags, and say heool to the crew. A few years ago, they changed the policy to giving the J/S out at about 10 min. prior to dept. As a commuter from CLT to DCA, I thought that sucked. Why should I get bumped off a J/S, when I bothered to get their early enough to get it. The problem was that senior F/A's were not being able to get to places like ILM, CLT,ROA, and many others. The union begged the company to change it to 10 mins. prior to dept. It really screwed junior F/A's. But that is what we have come to expect from our union and company. If a junior F/A had come tpo the union with an idia like that, they would have laughed. When are we getting Pref. Bid. at US anyway?
 
Sending a jumpseater down at 10mins prior and counting dosen't make a lot of sense.
At HP, the goal is to have the door closed at 10min prior, not still be boarding a nonrev jumpseat and having to check bags cuz there's no room left.
I agree, its good to get on before general boarding, stow your bags and meet the working crew.

It was clear that it was done to protect the senior commuters. Not that I was junior or anything, but at my airline, the senior F/A was hired in 1957. Also, I lokked up how many F/A's we had senior to Jan 1983. The number was 2000. Do I think DOH is fair to you all, not really, but it is in the Bylaws of the AFA. When we picked up the Trump Shuttle, all of those people went ahead of me. I didn't like it, but we moved on. I hope all goes well between US and HP, and we can go out and kick some butt as a great team.

It is not about helping your co-workers. It is about the company taking all the a/c down to the bare min. f/a required and then furloughing thousands of f/a's and then they expect a full 757 to be ran by 4 f/a. If the f/a's cant handle it..it is the company's fault for not having an extra f/a and for furloughing too many. Everyone knows over at Usairways not to help the f/a's out. It has nothing to do with screwing them over. Yes, we want to help..but..even if you ask..most of the time they say "no..just relax..if we cant get it done its the company's fault for short handing us" Before I was furloughed I never let a non rev in uniform help. I know they still dont to this day. It sounds mean..but, beleive me it is not. We used to never have a 757 go out with 4..then they just cut it all. No more extra positions.
 
I'm surprised they even let f/a's help. At UAL you are NOT allowed to help. If you do, and something happens, you will not be covered by insurance. They are very specific about this. (it's so boring, can't read, play on computer, sleep, help out, NOTHING! :huh: ) The main objective is to stay awake. Stinks! (but we do get our js 30 min out by seniority and can wear jeans)
