3 month PLOA proffer opens 2jun09 and closes 10JUN.

July through September 2009.

Looks like they are finally acknowledging the overage.

Not a good sign.... What's ahead for us in the fall ?? Gotta wonder...

The topic is the PLOA. Any attempt to turn it into another AA vs. TWA gripefest will result in suspension. Posts have been and will be deleted.

As someone who is only 600 from the bottom of the active list, I can't say I like this news. Offering a PLOA at the height of the summer travel season does not bode well for the Fall. But, as you said Skymess, they are finally acknowledging what we have all known for some time. There is an overage. When you do recalls in anticipation of a major International expansion and then you don't expand--in fact, you contract--there is a problem with staff numbers.

With several AB6s due to be retired in September, it can only get worse unless retirements pick up. 🙁

The only positive news is that the newly configured 75Ls will require more FAs than domestic 757s (right?), so if that program stays on track, that should soak up some of the overage as those planes enter service this summer and into the fall.

New 738s are arriving, but MD-80s are leaving.

Well, maybe they'll just keep offering 3-month PLOAs. I think most people can't afford the longer ones like the 12-month leave, but a number of people might take an Oct-Dec leave and have the holidays off. And, I might be up for a Jan-Mar leave during ski season.

Reconfigured 757s require more FAs than domestic but 3 less than the 767 they are replacing.

The new 737s are a 4 bid aircraft replacing a S80 3 bid aircraft.

Yes, but they will also probably cover some of the AB6 flying which is a reduction of 3 positions. Does anyone out there have factual data on what they are goin to use to cover the airbus? At JFK they are using some 767's, but who knows what will stay...

Unfortunately the international routes they are going to are in the Caribbean which are staffed at 7 f/a's vs 9 going to Europe.

Well, not exactly factual data...how about a vague memory of a rumor? IIRC, there was talk that some 1/day Airbus flying out of MIA was to be replaced with 737 flights with frequency increased to 2/day. But, I wouldn't bet the rent money on my memory. I'm old, you know.

Anyone have any idea how many AA wants to take the PLOA? They got such a stellar response from the last overage leave proffer. Anyone on here think AA will furlough again if there isn't somewhere close to the full amount of wanted participation? I see what happened in March coming all over again by August 1 and potentially again before the end of the year. Not trying to be a "Debbie Downer", I just don't see how this is going to turn out good. People have already had 2 chances to take a summer overage leave and they haven't gotten close to the expected amount. Hope it turns out well. I just can't see how there won't be another furlough.

I'm telling you, IORFA, when things look blackest, you're always there with the voice of doom. However, that being said, I agree. I don't think furloughs will come until after Labor Day, but if this PLOA is not fully subscribed, I don't see how there can not be furloughs. Unless, they just keep offering PLOAs as each current one expires.

I'm already looking at my finances to make sure I'm ok if I'm furloughed before the end of the year. My problem is going to be trying to find a job at age 64 in an economy that already stinks.

From what I understood the last round, there was quite a demand for summer leaves but the company stuck to their estimate of 410 per month for the summer months as the overage, and the leaves granted and furloughs were based on that number. That's why I can't imagine the numbers we're looking at here could be too great. If the alleged overage is so great, why didn't they take care of it with the last round of furloughs?

My numbers show 437 on OVL's for the months of Sep-Nov. I would hope there's still a bit of demand out there.
