Interesting comment, in light of the numerous posts on USAviation in which front-line airline employees claim there are soooo many other opportunities available to them with better compensation and benefit packages. (And how many posts have there been in which F/As repeatedly claim that there are a lot of doctors and lawyers working as F/As? If these claims are to be believed, it would appear that there are LOTS of opportunities available to airline employees besides working for disfunctional management for subpar wages and benefits.)
I don't know any doctors or lawyers who work as F/A's, so I can't speak to that. It would be a pretty stupid career move, IMHO. I defer to Poug Darker's last post regarding this. It's spot on.
To answer your question, yes, I am aware of the unemployment rate, and I am grateful for the opportunity that presented itself to me. However, it was also available to me largely through the hard work I have done over the past several years in my profession.
Glad you are able to climb that ladder in your profession. It really doesn't matter how much of a super stew you are here - you wiggle up the payscale year by year until you top out (at a huge reduction from what pay was in years past, of course) or until you get a contractual raise.
Of course not. You can "ask" all you want. The question, however, is what should a reasonable employee do when (apparently, based on the endless bitching and moaning evident here) the employer is a complete basket case; cannot ever get anything right; consistently makes purposeful choisces to screw over both employees and customers; etc.
I would suggest the reasonable employee would seek other opportunities.
