Gay Marriage

There is absolutely no correlation between the sexual abuse allegations leveled at the BSA over the decades and the BSA allowing openly gay minors as members. None. The gay-rights activists are not interested in equality. The BSA does not discriminate against gays; they never have. The membership application doesn’t even ask about sexual orientation. There has never been a witch-hunt to find and remove homosexuals from the ranks. There may currently be Scouts and adult leaders in uniform that are gay. They’re discreet, though; they’re private and they conduct themselves in an appropriate manner around other young boys.

This is about promoting a political agenda.

Never said there was any correlation. I merely pointed out that instead of worrying about gay members being allowed into the BSA that it might be more prudent to be concerned with the straight BSA leaders who are abusing the children and being hidden by the BSA leadership. Witchhunt, no. But should someone decide to make a stand and admit that they are gay they were kicked out. Why someone would want to be a member of an organization that does not accept them is beyond me. That's like me wanting to join the KKK or something.

The BSA does not need to ask about sexual orientation in order to discriminate and they certainly do discriminate. If a applicant or member admits that they are gay they will be denied membership or kicked out of the BSA. This fact is well documented. I guess we could expect the children to lie about them selves but that would not be setting a very good example. That would also go against the “trustworthy” part of the BSA creed.

I think key issue is appropriate behavior. Something that the straight BSA leaders did not exercise when abusing/raping the boy scouts. There is no reason anyone should have to hide who they are so long as they behave appropriately.

I had a friend who was gay. We all knew it. He applied for the BSA troop that I was in. They told him no because he was gay. I was in the troop for about 6 years, told them to take their uniform and stick it. Never looked back. I for one and glad that the BSA is finally getting closer to the 21[sup]st[/sup] century.

Not sure where you get the idea that the gay rights movement is not about equality. I believe that is exactly what it is about.

And again more dodging of the questions at hand. I have one log in and only one. Feel free to report it to the Mods if you doubt my claim.

Nearly the Dumbya'esque-est thing Ihave heard all day, except that we do also have your other lala land dreamworld posts.

Do you know any real people, or are Rush, Sean and Glenn your only friends?

Your posts are so far out of touch it is hard to imagine otherwise

OH! You, just like the other libtards, want Big Brother to take care of everything else though! You want "Big Government", you got it !

Second most dumbaesque post on the thread

No. I want government out of people's personal lives, and protecting individual freedoms and civil liberties.

That should be a conservative position, but the Republican Party in teaming up with the religious right has stood that, like so many conservative ideals, on its head.

There are some things the government can do better, and should. Preferably at the most local level possible. As the country grows, and becomes more interconnected, some of those things are naturally and unavoidably moving toward the federal level.

IOW

News Flash

The world has changed.

If the so-called conservatives, nee Fox Republicans, in this country were consistent, they would be demanding the dismantling of the large federal standing military forces we have come to accept as "necessary", and insist that function be returned to the states, as the founders intended, and specified in the Constitution.

If they were a little more consistent, they would be calling for privatization and outsourcing of the country's military.

Obviously, then, given the right's love of all things military and endless appetite for increased military spending, "they" do believe the federal government is able to effectively perform in the national interest, when it is something "they" support, and something that they have become accustomed to being 'necessary".

Same principles apply in other areas. The right just hasn't caught up to reality yet.

BTW, regulation of marriage long predates "big government". Logically, it would have likely been promoted by the "socially conservative" factions, who are always ready to make new laws regarding how other people should act, or live--whether it is any of their damn business or not.

Responding to the wrong person IS the dumbest thing I've seen all day.
