Gonna Make It...yes Or No

Too much damage done to the employees and the customers. Customers will shy away and employee morale is as low as it gets. I'm afraid its over. My guess 30-45 days at the most. 🙁 Savy

TWA, Pan Am, Eastern & effective 14JAN05.....US Airways.

I hope i'm wrong but I don't think US Airways can be revived. And just like Eastern, it will be blamed on labor, regardless of the reality.

If the people that are making the strategic decisions in the company were intelligent, savy, and innovative, there was a chance a couple of years ago. Unfortunately, Dave Siegel squandered everything, then walked away rich. That says a lot about the corporate officers and executives of this company that let him do that. They have destroyed morale in the company and now FEAR is the only thing that is motivating any allegience. A company built on fear as the prime motivator is finished in a service industry. "Loyalty" has dissappeared under the onslaught of lies, slow-leaks, and bait/switch employee relations. I think you'd have a very hard time finding an employee who thought U's management team was anything other than buffoons. When the troops don't believe in the generals anymore, defeat is certain. Further, a huge number of employees know that their jobs are going to be outsourced to low-bidder scab subcontractors employing sub minimum wage caliber morons.

The full court press this weekend is focused at trying to garner some good PR. However, this won't change the strategic direction and day to day tactical excecution of the company. Only leaders with vision, loyalty to the brand, a sense of SHARED sacrifice, and good leadership qualities can do that.

Southwest, AirTran, and JetBlue see the blood in the water. Regardless of an infusion of "stay breathing" money, U's business model is ineffectual. U's competition won't even have to work very hard to accelerate U's loss hemmorage . . . . and that assuming that the disaffected employees don't mutiny first.

There cannot be a more clear example of failure of leadership.

I agree... but the avoidance of a disaster is not enough... U and it's PR department (I know, I'm dreaming) have to turn this weekend into "It's a Wonderful Life" 2005. It needs to be portrayed as a rebirth of U and its employee spirit. There need to be pictures of employees with good cheer and goodwill ALL OVER THE media tomorrow morning. There needs to be a countdown! and sparkling grape juice and a crystal ball and dancing. Well, I go on. Even then, it might just make for some good memories for those that are there. I hope it's a good time. Good luck.

😀 😀 😀 AMEN!! Rebirth - perfect way to describe it!!! Hello is Jerry listening- he's the first one that needs to go

2005, the year of the comeback for Usairways. As long as management can keep skimming of the top of this place for their on good will be around. Happy New year to everyone!!!!!! ( only had a few so far)

In my opinion I think US will survive longer than others think. Someone, somewhere will give them an infusion of cash to help them stay afloat till the industry strengthens. Obviously, if something major doesnt happen soon with regards to cost and revenues they wont survive the shakeout. I belive that if IAIR files bkrptcy it would have a tremendous impact on other carriers being able to raise the price of a ticket. Good luck to all employees

Early Spring and Dr Bone will pull the plug..

He's out to prove that he can bone any and every Union in an airline.. He's just putting notches in his belt, thats it..

The best part.. He's proved beyond any doubt that any airline large or small can make ALPA beg.. If he come's back in 3 mos and says "we need another 15%, cut the pension you have and basically do what we want the ALPA leadership will say No Problem".. Whatever you need Dr Bone.. You are our hero.. We love you..

Put WalMart on the alert.. Vaseline sales in CLT, PHL and PIT are about to sky rocket.. And we all know who will be the first Member of ALPA to get in the WalMart line..

ditto......"Happy New Year".......may this year bring good change!

YES It will make it with psa at 150 jets, m/a at 150 jets, shuttle with all airbuses and drop the rest af the dead weight.

UAIR will be a classic from the past but won't have the nostalgia Pan Am and TWA still have such as tropical posters etc. UAIR should have been a greater airline. Sign of the times.

Didn't I read that UAIR has to come up with an additional $100 million in financing by 15JAN or GE was going to pull the plug on their part of the deal? Does anyone know of any organization with that kind of money who is also willing to lend it to UAIR?

Look people! Even the rats and roaches have already got in their lifeboats and left the ship. I would suggest you start looking for yours! Every day that USAIR stays in business is another day of suffering for it's workers! I think a "mercy killing" would be justified in this situation. Load torpedo tubes #1 and #2, FIRE 1!, FIRE 2! Torpedos Away! KA-BOOOOOOOMMMM!

NO WAY IN HELL as long as Jerry and his dominion of demons are running things.

The system is broken and Hub and Spoke carriers need to change quickly or face the fate of USAirways.

"Folks who are less apt to make declarative statements are less likely to look foolish into retrospect"

People are always declaring that the hub and spoke model is broken and they better change quickly. First I am curious as to what you are basing this statement on and were did you get your data or research, your opinion aside, to make such a statement. LLC have a completely different business model than the international carriers. The cost of maintaining the network at Northwest is not cheap but the payoff is that, unlike Jet Blue, you can book from Aberdeen, SD to Tokyo. Jet Blue does not operate an aircraft that can service ABR and turn a profit and obviously cannot get you to NRT. The other thing to remember that, unlike Jet Blue, Northwest can get passengers into their networks from virtually anywhere in the world through their Sky Team affiliation. Secondly the only true point to point carrier is Southwest the other LLC (Jet Blue out of JFK, AirTran out of ATL, America West PHX/LAS) all are hub and spoke. So how can the hub and Spoke concept be that flawed if everyone is using it aside from SWA?
