Today is the relaunch of Hawaiian service from the desert- anyone know how things went? Pax bookings etc? I for one am very glad to see the Islands added to the route map and I couldn't care less WHO flies it, just THRILLED to see it added! A-L-O-H-A! And for those people that have never been, child where in the hell have you been hanging

I hope it will be successful for the new US Airways. I think the people at the airline can use some good news 🙂

was the service marketed as America West or US Airways I know that America West is operating the flight.

The flights should be leaving right now at 11:30am. Yesterday when I checked HNL was overbooked by 4 with 65 non-revs listed. Maui was under by 5 with 20 non-revs.

HNL left at 1141 on a MX delay, and OGG left 1 minute after schedule.

Both flights left near full load factor, and the trend continues for the forseeable future.

The flights are marketed as US Airways operated by America West.

They also both went on pretty god weight restrictions. We're having to send quite a few bags over on ATA.

I checked out the loads for the month of december and they are all either full or oversold. What is up with that? They must have offered a really cheap fare to Hawaii and there were 70 nonrevs listed on the first day which is insane!

I heard something like 100 plus seats per flight were not being sold but held for Flight Fund members..

How can this be I hear of this but it still makes me wonder that we can't fill a plane with bags, psgrs, freight, mail.

Re the weight restrictions maybe the 767-200 may be a good idea especially in the summer. Re the large number of non-revs it sounds like most of whom unfortuanlty did not get on, at US-East this flight would have been probably embargoed for the first 90 days. While I am not crazy about this policy in this case it might have made sense, even if for a shorter period.

There are those who would disagree with you: "Oh, US Airways, how awful that you would price flights non-competitive w/ ATA." Give me a break, a lot of someones were willing to pay that fare. 🙄

I had also heard, smmech, that there were an unusually high number of seats left open for frequent flyers, but I think 100+ may have been a little high.

That number would be outrageous if it were true.

And some West people complain it's the East FFs who want too much.

I don't think there would be a travel embargo due to the fact the the new service to Hawaii is domestic. I think an embargo is only in effect when new service is to another country. I bet those flights are going to be quite full for a long time to come.

Heard it from an engineer working on the ETOPS/EOW program not sure about the numbers but he seemed to think it was accurate. Have heard from many sources that Hawaii was basically a destination to draw more frequent fly'ers in to AWA/US.. Kinda a gold chip in the program.

That's generally true for any airline. The profit on these flights comes from the few high yield you sell, the cargo, and the mail. Big picture profitability comes from attracting feed to earn miles for the flights.

Todays' flights only look as if there are less than 10 award tickets.
