Hawaiian lift off

If anyone is looking to non-rev to Hawaii, the best time to go is mid to late January. The Christmas rush is over and the spring travel season picks up around Presidents day weekend. Just my observations. Aloha.

And Hawaiian is normally a decent ride out of SMF & ONT to HNL, if that's your destination (although SMF requires an overnight on the return).

When I worked for another legacy, there were over 100 BP8's (nonrevs) on the standby list, we were near the bottom. I think the GA said there was only 20 some seats open, next thing we know we hear "final call for XXX 881 to Tokyo" 2 gates down. My friend & I pulled out our passports and ran like hell! The agent actually put us on, and in first class no less (and this was when we first had the sleeper seats!).... got to Tokyo did a quick transfer and got upper deck back to O'Hare.

If going to Hawaii, its easy to get there, hard to get back!

Well, because they weren't closer to HI. They had JUST gotten to the coast when they did the turn back. It's been back here in PHX about an hour or so...

That's what we get for sending the HP 57 fleet over... <_<

I heard that the flight takes a weight penalty due the fuel required to get the 757 over to HNL. We did a proving run in 91 for HNL 767-200 I did the W&B on it and we had no problems. But with the shortage of heavy metalin the fleet with the loss N654US and the return of N647US Doug may need to go shopping for some 767-200 or 300's to off set the loss of cargo lift on the OGG and HNL runs.

It only took 28 years into my career with Usairways to finally have service to Hawaii. We were the only major that did not service Alaska and Hawaii. Thank God we now service both. I guess we finally hit the BIG TIME.

I read on another board that todays return to PHX redeparted around 1730 lcl or around 6 hours late. Like we used to say over at US-East, same day service on most occasions.

I'm sure thats when the flight went back out.

A/C 908 -- air turn around after 3 hours into the flight
The pairing notes for the flight attendants note that they had a radio failure.

They were further out than the coast if the turn back was at 3 hours +
