What's new

Health Care Passes House

Let me get this straight

we're passing a health care plan written by a committee whose chairman says he doesn't understand it,
passed by a Congress that hasn't read it but exempts themselves from it,
signed by a president that also hasn't read it and who smokes
funding administered by a treasury chief who didn't pay his taxes,
all to be overseen by a surgeon general who is obese,
financed by a country that's broke.

What the hell could possibly go wrong????

Well said!!!!

Health care reform opponents have now crossed the line.

Racial epithets and anti- gay slurs were directed at Democratic members of the House and an African American congressman was spat upon while Republican representatives were cheering the demonstrators from the House balcony.

Protesters screamed "Kill the bill!" from the House gallery, to cheers from some Republicans on the House floor, in violation of house rules.

At least 10 House Democrats received death threats or had their offices or homes vandalized.

A gas line was severed at a home of the brother of a Democratic member of the House.

A coffin was placed near the home of Rep. Carnahan.

Representative Clyburn received a fax with an image of a noose.

Sarah Palin sent an email depicting targets/crosshairs over congressional districts of Democrats who supported the bill, while at the same time she tweeted "Don't retreat, RELOAD!"

Republican National Chairman Michael Steele suggested that voters send Speaker Nancy Pelosi to "the firing line."

Blogger Mike Vanderboegh, former leader of the Alabama Constitutional Militia, called on gun owners to "point their muzzles at the hearts of tyrants" when discussing ways to oppose congressional legislation.

"To date we have NO ARRESTS." That's the phrase we hear when it's a member of ACORN or another such left leaning organization. We also hear "Let's not rush to judgement"

For all anyone knows it is disgruntled ACORN members trying to make it look like it's the radical right.

So indeed let's not rush to judgement because my allegation is just as unprovable as anyone elses.

BTW, wasn't it perfectly OK to burn flags and engage in other types of Civil Disobedience when left leaning organizations protested Viet Nam?

Just checking.

My thoughts exactly. How many times in the past have we found one group using its own operatives to make the other look bad. Public opinion plays an important role.

ACORN.... the final solution:

SQUIRRELS!

How long before Nobama and his gang of cut-throats take over auto-insurance. My game plan is to not carry auto insurance, pay the "Imposed" federal fine, then if and when I do get involved in an accident, I will purchase insurance and tell them to fix my car !

Trying to compare health insurance to auto insurance is grasping at straws IMO. People getting health insurance in the way you describe is not really the problem. The problem is people being told by a health insurance company that they will not pay for something because it's a pre-existing condition. Then that person has a choice. Bankrupt themselves or forego treatment.

Here's the thing about the whole pre-existing condition thing. It can happen to anyone, including you southwind. But have no fear, maybe you will get lucky and the insurance companies can find a way around the law.

Actually the comparison made is the problem. People will game the system just as they do now with all the other entitlement programs.

It is ridiculous how the liberal MSM and Democrats are now spinning the major flaw in the bill (children are exempt till 2014) as an insurance industry loophole. When all else fails blame someone else. Democrat favorite past time.

People are surprised that these things happened? Maybe should have read the bill instead drafting in secret and then cramming it down in public. Like Pelosi said, "we have to pass it in order to know whats in it".

So your saying that people getting health insurance who have pre-existing conditions is gaming the system? Could you tell us how that works? You are aware that having a health insurance company tell you that you have been denied coverage because it's pre-existing could happen to anyone including you?

You brought up the argument that "But have no fear, maybe you will get lucky and the insurance companies can find a way around the law." then linked to an NYT article (that has revised history) placing blame on the insurance companies trying to escape insuring children with pre-existing conditions under the new Obamacare system.

But that's patently false.

It was a mere hours after Obama signed into the new law when AP broke the news:

Gap in health care law's protection for children
Obama administration scrambles to fix gap in health care law's protection for children

Full protection for children would not come until 2014, said Kate Cyrul, a spokeswoman for the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee, another panel that authored the legislation. That's the same year when insurance companies could no longer deny coverage to any person on account of health problems.

So you can see that the argument currently in play about the insurance companies somehow trying to find a loophole in the law is patently false by the admission of the panel that wrote the law.

Now if you argument is: Should Insurance Companies Drop You Because of Pre-Exisiting Conditions?
Then my answer is no. But the solutions now in play by Obamacare are much worse.

Its like cutting your head off to solve a nosebleed. The argument can be made that it was better then doing nothing, but the cure was far worse then what you had before.

This is the latest on the gap in health insurance for children with pre-existing conditions:

Insurance industry agrees to fix kids coverage gap
WASHINGTON — The insurance industry says it won't fight President Barack Obama over fixing a coverage gap for kids in the new health care law.

In a letter Monday to Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius, the industry's top lobbyist says insurers will accept new regulations to dispel uncertainty over a much publicized guarantee that children with pre-existing medical problems can get coverage starting this year.

The president of America's Health Insurance Plans said the industry will "fully comply" with the regulations, expected within weeks.

I believe that's the point I was trying to make so I'm not sure what you're getting all worked up about.

Your previous statement was not philosophical. Your statement about "But have no fear, maybe you will get lucky and the insurance companies can find a way around the law." with the accompanying link, alluded that the insurance companies were trying to go around the new health care bill. The fact was that they did not. The specific language in the HC bill stated that the children coverage would not start until 2014 and admitted by those who crafted the bill.

Since this apparently has been taking care of already and the insurance companies are cooperating (despite what was spelled out in the bill) this argument is now moot.

Could you show me where I said otherwise? I think the fact that this issue ever came up is something you should find disturbing.
