Pittsburgh is displacing 155 flight attendants June 1, 2005 to reduce the "inactive" flight attendants. The most senior person is #44601 with a seniority date of May 20, 1992. Flight attendants with 13 years getting displaced?????? Who would of ever thought.

1992? We haven't seen a mechanic on the property with that hire date in over 3 years!

1988 is the bottom of the heap in the mechanic ranks.

To hold a part time ramp position in PIT you must have 20 years,it's only going to get worse!

Yes, I understand that, but the flight attendant rank is a completly different animal.
Who knows what is going to happen.

Notice in the other thread about SWA regarding the U/AWA merger. They said they wanted more space in PHL not PIT. I don't think SWA is going to be the knight that the Allegheny County Airport Authority thinks it is going to be. But hey, they will have a parade throught the PIT airport on May 4th.........how tacky!!!!!!

Hey, I'm happy about that. SW will keep Pittsburgh businesses going. That is great for our area.

If U doesn't want to give Pittsburgh service, I am thrilled that someone else will and be successful. SW doesn't come into cities where they can make no money.

Only USAirways does that.

What knight? The ACAA is looking to run enough traffic off of U to lower fares. Check.

Which will in turn regain a bunch of the O&D traffic area that currently runs up to CLE or CAK. Check. (interesting to note that PIT O&D is up since US pulled the hub. Who was the first to report this would happen?)

Which in turns puts the remaining legacies and the LCCs into expansion mode in PIT. Check.

Which finally allows for robust service once U folds. Checkmate.

See BNA and RDU for the reference model.

I'm pretty sure the ACAA is not expecting any white knight, Southwest or otherwise, to ever return Pittsburgh to the level of service we once had. It was nice; we gave up low fares for non-stop service. Now we don't have non-stop service, but it looks like the low fares are coming.

In 2000 I spent over $35k with USAirways. Even got an award from Travelocity for being a big sucker or something (the days of $2k+ fares to the West Coast for full Y). Just bought a refundable R/T to Chicago on Southwest for $98. Somehow, it feels better.

Do not be surprised if US Airways downsizes Pittsburgh even further and closes the crew base this fall.

Not that PIT really cares.

Gonna move to the "profitable" FLL focus city, right? The one that they yanked flights out of two weeks after starting them?

That said, US has had a chance to develop the O&D market in PIT. They chose to keep the pricing at the Blowfare, "monopoly hub" level and try to extort the county and state immediately after the first bankruptcy. Since the annoucement of the hub reduction, O&D PIT has increased year-over-year, LUV announced service, USA 3000 expanded service, Hooters announced service, Airtran expanded with FLL service and extra sections to ATL and MCO, Northwest returned MEM service, UA started DEN service, U returned IAH and Chaper 11 service. You get the point.

I guess that the reaction of the fine people of Western Pennsylvania should be (and will be) "don't let the door hit you on the way out." I'm sure the remaining employees of US might not be thrilled, but most are probably commuting or quickly looking for other employment in any case.
