HP A/C Question

The timing of fleet configurations can be addressed in the future with the exception of the 757s in the East. To reduce the F/C cabin from 24 to 8 was an absolute joke not to mention how silly it looks on a BIG plane, yet they keep 26 F/C seats on the A321 when the plane only holds 169. Whomever was responsible for this stupid stunt hopefully is GONE from the Band of Bumbling Idiots that "Managed" (and I use that term loosely< like loose stool>)the East side. When US/East first acquired the 757 there were 16 F/C seats which was suitable, but the 14 seats in the AWA fleet is probably right where it needs to be today.

As part of the LCC concept, I wouldnt' be surprised to see configurations more in line with US West right now. But you're right..re-configurations are probably going to happen later rather than sooner.

UW Cactus,

When we first got the buses and the f/c pax had their coats hung on those hooks, they cringed. The last row hit the jackets. Lord, what a scene. AND the last row would have a #### fit because the bulk gave them less recline, which I understand. Oh, what to do.

Oops, I said the B word.

"These pretzels are making me THIRSTY!"

As a temporary measure, blocking some middle seats to create business class in the manner some European airlines do would make me happy, although the real first class seats would be nice. I realize though, that logistically, this would be a pain if only a temporary measure...I'm just surprised that it isn't done here routinely. The ride with my shoulders folded together in a 757 economy seat the other night was miserable.

When the 757 started to be reconfigured, it started showing up in stations without the agents knowing sometimes. In vegas I did see the agents block the middle seats for a few rows right up front in coach to accomodate passengers that had f/c seats but found themselves in the comfy coach cabin of the 757. Didn't make for a good boarding. Were lucky on the East side that we have fuel in the tank or speed tape to hold the o/h bins closed let alone get the company to spend the time or money to reconfigure to more f/c seats. One can only wish though. I miss my closet we had with the roll-up door. I'd stuff that sucker.

Oh don't you just love the 757 now? I've got the "great and meet" position. Luckily three of the legs on the trip are on the 767...galley.

It's time to bring the 757 to at least 16. What a joke. We spent ALL that money for 11 seats.

That's funny that you mention the "meet and greet" D position at the 2L door. I with my crumby 8 years will ALWAYS find myself there. In the A's briefing, the first thing I add is that being the "D" I DO NOT leave my door during boarding AT ALL. If the A don't cover I don't leave the door unoccupied. So the "C" with the arms folded leaning on the 3R bathroom will have to work along with the "B" brewing coffee and chatting with the last row. LOL.... I get juniored into it all the time and couldn't care less. Thank goodness I'm skinny enough to fit behind the padded headrest for boarding....I mean, where are you to go? Gotta love it. IF only I could get a trip now.

How funny! I stand there too...too many bruises anywhere else. I always feel badly for poor ol 9C who gets slapped by every bag walking by.

I must say I have embraced the "meet and greet". At least I know everyone will get a good first impression of the company. 😱

Well, I get to venture up to PHL on the 767 there and back, and then head out to LAS on the ol "meet and great". So I get a break tonight and tomorrow AM. Now I get to play the role of "you're never too busy to say hello" since THAT position is all over the place with 5 on the 767. lol

To top off this glorious three day, I have the esteem honor of being routed from LAS-CLT-PHL-CLT with...you guessed it..three a/c changes. Does my heart good...Two "greet and meet" and one "we're never too busy to say hello".

But alas, I'm off after that until Insanity Sunday and THAT's just one leg...thank God. 😎

It's interesting to read that even though your positions are named differently than US West, the issues while boarding are the same at the US West as US East. Everyone thinks the grass is always greener on the other side, and this helps keep things in perspective. We all have the same battles while working with one another, no matter which airline, but everyone still seems to love it. Incidentally on US West, positions are generally referred to as 1st (A position, JS at 1L), 2nd (B position, JS at 2L), 3rd (C position, JS at 3R) and 4th (D position, galley, JS at 4L). Of course all of this naming and position duties are up for debate currently for transisition training beginning in 2006.

You are right. Good God, I just got off my 757/767 trip. Every 767 arrived in A West in Phl and the 757 at the end of B or C. I think I lost 5 lbs walking. lol. Between the meet and great of the 757 and the we're never too busy to say hello on the 767, my head was spinning. Add one Philly factor. Wow!! Pass the egg nog.

I understand that the Star Alliance is going to somewhat force the hand of CCYW on this. Apparently, there's a rule that *A mainline jets have to have at least a certain ratio of Y seats to F/J seats, and the US 757s don't cut it. They didn't enforce the rule because US was bankrupt, but now that they're out of Chapter 11, they're going to make a point of it.

I think it makes sense anyway to bring the US birds up to 14 - the LAS-type runs aren't going to be just leisure pax anymore, what with the night hub there.

There is no such rule as US was not in Bankruptcy when it first joined Star Alliance.
