What none of my republican friends cares to admit is that whoever is elected - democrat or republican - we are going to be spending money that we don't have. Bernie might propose raising taxes to pay for his programs....the republicans propose cutting taxes and starting wars. Bernie's plan might actually result in LESS debt, since the democrats acknowledge that you need money to pay for your program - hence "tax and spend" democrats. Republicans love tax cuts. They claim that when we cut taxes - revenues increase. Funny thing is - every single time we have cut taxes, the deficit and debt have also increased. Their reply....it's not a revenue issue, it's a spending issue. Then they increase defense spending. And if they are lucky....they'll start a war. So the bottom line is, the debt is going to keep on increasing. We have a choice - have that debt go towards improving life in the US for everybody....or fighting a war in the hellhole known as the middle east. Personally, I like Bernie's plan better.700UW said:

You could eliminate several departments for starters.
Sooner or later, no matter who is at the helm, Humpty Dumpty is going to fall off the wall, and hard.
Yall can jerk me about the 2011 depression and all but something wonderful is going to happen if spending isn't drastically checked.
Ms Tree said:Can we start with the DoD? Not eliminate it but there was a study done a little while ago that showed the DoD has several trillion dollars in waste over the last few decades. Seems if they are wasting that much money they could do with significantly less than $500 billion a year. Then we can streamline Congress itself. Estimates to run Congress range from $16 million to $20 million a day. While we are streamlining Congress we can probably trim state and city government as well.
I would consider consolidating the NSA, FBI and CIA into one entity. Theoretically it would allow more efficient use of manpower, more efficient use of resources and better internal communication.
I think this would be a good start.
