John C tell the whole truth read this and maybe you will learn something:

First of you need to get your facts straight, one the IAM did not accrete you into the bargaining unit the National Mediation Board did that when the IAM presented them with signed Authorization Cards from Planners and Tech Specialists, the NMB ruled similar class and craft at a hearing where numerous US Airways Executives and lawyers testified, as a matter of fact there were classifications that were ruled not be in the bargaining unit. Here is the link to the case from the NMB with all the facts, history and testimony: http://www.nmb.gov/representation/deter200...001/28n030.html. The NMB accreted your group and ruled that there was no election to be taken place in the classifications accreted and I believe US Airways has deeper pockets then the IAM, so once again post facts and not your untruthful opionions.

Too many of my coworkers have been bumped to furlough just another 423, and over a thousand in October of 2001, so I know what is like to be bumped around and move to have to keep your job, were you around in 1990 and 1991 when they closed the west coast stations and Utica, I was and was affected, as a matter of fact I just got displaced to a lower classification and I am taking a $160 a week paycut. So I think I know what is it to be affected by a seniority system. A seniority has its pros and cons, but it prevents favortism and kiss asses. And workers in my group voted in 1949 to be unionized and all employees seeking employment in maintenance were well aware that it is unionized

And if you took the time to read your contract you would know that someone can only displace you if they hold time in your classification and they are in the same bargaining unit, here is the link to your agreement: http://www.iam141m.org/usplan1.htm.

Yes I am a supporter of the IAM and I don't agree with everything they do, but I have seen what happens to employees that are not represented by a labor union on this property. Back in 1992 the Customer Service Agents and Fleet Service employees were non-union, the company unilaterally imposed new conditions on them once the pilot group accepted concessions. They lost their sick time, vacation, OJI time, thier pension was frozen and they no longer had a defined contribution plan, they company took 40% of the full time employees and made them part time, cutting there hours from 40 to 25 a week, therefore making them pay several hundred dollars a month for family medical insurance, in CLT you had to have had at least 13 years with the company in order to maintain full time status, they took away the Express work from them causing mass layoffs, contracted out mail and frieght causing loss of revenue and jobs, imposed pay cuts on them, all the while when you had employees on the property with less then three years that the company could not impose new work rules on them because they were unionized.

Apparently you are not a union oriented person which is your choice, if you dont like paying dues, become a dues objector and lose all your rights, or maybe you should get off your duff and get involved and make a change if you dont like it. You know you can lead the horse to water but you cannot make him drink. The facts have been out their in front of your face, it is your own fault that you chose not to learn them instead of posting what you think are the facts. Take the time and go to the links I posted on here and learn what happened and what rights you have. And the Closed Shop is legal under the Railway Labor Act and the company and union negotiated the union security agreement. Here is a link to the RLA: http://www.nmbfacts.com/RLA&Index.htm.

All I know is I have seen what this company has done to its non-union employees and I will tell you that is this day and age, unions are necessary in the aviation industry, if you don't believe me go ask anyone CSA or FSA who were around in the days of them being non-union. What do you think Dave would have done if the majority

I'm not sure, but let me tell you my IAM story. Three years ago, I was hired as a maintenance planner. At that time it was a management salary plan job and I got hired in at $15 or so an hour. Well, right after I got in, Planners and Tech Docs specialists were accreted by the IAM. This means we were now in the union, with no vote.

Now that we were in the union, the company began agressively seeking a contract. They fooled around for three years and we finally got an agreement last May. It was a letter of agreement and, once again, WE DIDN'T EVEN GET TO VOTE ON IT! So, we're put into a union without a choice; next, we're given a contract without a vote.

This contract sucked. Instead of us getting paid based on our seniority, our pay seniority was based on what we were getting paid on the MSP - and this seriously screwed those of us who had been frozen, while the IAM and the company danced around and around. So, instead of getting year three pay, I was closest to step 2, and was then given year two pay.

This gets better. Our pay increase, first in THREE YEARS (and the only one I ever got) was effective July 15, 2002. So, I get my raise, only to have the SAME union give the entire thing back with retroactive. Now, I'm making less money than I was first hired in at.

So, my opinion of the IAM is rather low. I'm paying them dues to have them give up my pay and furlough protection.

Regardless of what you think of the IAM's position on the infamous revote, they had no right to call for a vote on an item that their members rejected.

I don't know if AMFA is much better - I've heard that they let NWAC contract out a lot of work and laid off a mess of people as part of the sweet pay deal they got. That is wrong, if you ask me. However, I believe that AMFA requires that their members vote on each letter of agreement before the union will formally agree to it. I can't ever see the IAM giving up their love of the smoke-filled secret negotiating room, where you don't hear anything for weeks or even years, then their decision is imposed on you.

Delldude, if scamfa gets to replace the IAM, you will still have the same agreement that was just ratified, changing unions will not change the fact. We are stuck with this agreement until it becomes amendable in 2008.

Stores at US is part of the mechanic class and craft and they are on the same contract.

DellDude, yes we are stuck with this agreement, but do you want these same people negotiating your next contract or changes to your current contract. AMFA has fought to have A&P mechanics considered skill labor. IAM has fought this every step of the way. IAM urged NMB to allow Baggage Handlers to vote in airline mechanic elections. IAM at United petitioned NMB to have employees covered by mechanics agreement and the ramp and stores agreement constitute a single craft or class. IAM stated that employees covered by the 2 agreements perform interrelated duties and are related in talents and interest. Yes we would have still made concessions but at least the people negotiating those concessions would have negotiated in the best intrest of the A&P mechanic. When pilots negotiate a contract they negotiate for pilots, when flight attendants negotiate a contract they negotiate for flight attendants. Why should A&P mechanics be any different. Stay confused or Vote AMFA! Happy Thanksgiving!

The current union has never been able to get a good contract here for me even in good times. They instill no trust in the membership and feel they know what is best for you. I do not have unrealistic expectations from AMFA, but I do feel the current union should be ridden for the crimes they have committed against our families. Any time we get a contract after a shaky voting method it is always worse then when it was sold to us. Too much dishonesty. Also when certain officials receive extra monies from the company it leaves one to wonder why this company would give them anything if they are not receiving anything in return. Worst case scenario is someone new screwing us. This strength in numbers thing just is not getting it anymore.

-Be a man and pull your head out of the bucket and look around. You would have to be an idiot not to see it.

-Don't be lead by intimidation.

-Gee I wonder why the company would rather us keep the union we have. Isn't it nice when they also want you to re-elect certain union officials.

This is all just my opinion. I guess the union is starting to worry about it's business plan. I am giving them their pink slip.

I would just like to be kept informed, which is something the IAM does not do. Everytime you ask a question it the same answerI'll get back to you, sometimes they do others times they don't. Its a shame we vote on contracts before we have the contract in hand, only a highlight sheet. Its been almost two months and still no contract book, answer=company printers. The pilots had their contract book in hand before they voted on the last contract. We found out what percentage we were giving back the day our paychecks arrived. I just want someone who is honest and open with the membership.

The contracting out of work at NWA began with the IAM. Currently there is less contracted out under the AMFA contract, but then there is also less work to do due to less flying and being mid-cycle in heavy checks. How are the lay-offs under AMFA different from the IAM lay-offs during '92-'93 at NWA?

Does it make you wonder when some of the biggest supporters and organizers for AMFA have been former EAL mechanics?

What is AMFA going to do for ME that the iam hasn't?

Well lets see the iam got you parity plus one AMFA went to the PEB stood up to NWA brought in PAMA showed the real cost of the contract showed NWA managment where they had failed by not hedging fuel and in other area's and won a contract that changed the way we are payed.

For some reason you folks who don't like AMFA feel that someone has to do for you with AMFA you do for yourself the mechanics are in control you go to the table and watch and listen to what being done, you have input you are updated not set in the hangar and wait till some comes by and says vote yes.

So I guess one could ask what has the iam done for you that AMFA hasn't?

So lets see they settle for parity plus they just neg. your wage reductions and the ones at ual see a pattern iam us wage cut iam ual wage cut. Now I know what your thinking the iam went to the PEB and won true but had it not been for the NWA deal they would and could not have got the money go read the PEB transcript the only thing they did was say we won't the NWA deal and UAL promised to give it.

With the contract we have now what changes would AMFA make that would do me good?

So lets see you and the iam are responsible for the mess your in now but somehow you think iam is better tham AMFA.
well I say the iam sucks and when you are next to the bottom {the twu being the bottom} than there is only one way and that is up.

One more thing and this is not ment to be a insult but maybe you should reread your post and sub the word we in place of the word ME then maybe you will start to see what all the AMFA guys see in the union of their choice.

Also the IAM negotiated the best scope at US Airways, you won't see a US Airways airplane sent to Singapore like Northwest does with their DC-10s and their DC-9s sent to GSO to be overhauled by TIMCO.

This a lie the farm out cap applies to all a/c main. they cannot just farm out work just because its a new a/c type.

ldkiam show us documentation of this don't just make up crap. You must be on the iam payroll.

My coupla' quid worth: AMFA. I'm a believer in craft associations, rather than industrial unions. It should be ideally a mechanic's only association, without the bargaining encumberances of and related and somesuch gerrymandering for strength in numbers. This may not be completely possible though, for reasons that go beyond the company and the union. --
