hey folks,

I thought I read that none of these concessionary agreements would be enforced until all groups come to an agreement.
The FA dont have an agreement so what gives to allow your company to contract out 68 IAM ramp stations?

regards

They have and "imposed" agreement.

Tim--

All agreements on the property were contingent on everyone else either ratifying an "agreement," or having terms impsed on them. Once the F/A's had terms imposed on 01.Aug.06, everyone else's went into effect. The outsourcing program is now underway, though several cities are having trouble finding 3rd party vendors.

As a (former???)US employee, this outsourcing should all sound frightenly familiar.

If you want any other specific details, either about the new "contract," or the outsourcing, PM me.

Wages! $7.80/hr!

Now, now...it's actually $8.23/hr. But hey! In ten years, you could be making much more!

Seriously, it shouldn't suprise anyone on this board that NW is having a devil of a time getting quality applicants. In the meantime, they're paying topped out guys overtime to cover the staffing...when they could have just raised the entry scale some. It's also not helping that they are telling all applicants that they will work day shift with weekends-or partials- off. Imagine their joy when told they'll be on nights with midweek days off for the forseeable future.

In my city, our last job fair had 60 people show up. Only 2 or 3 passed all the hurdles (background check, drug screen, etc.). Of that, 2 declined, and we ended up with one guy-he lasted 3 weeks.

During that time, he A) Damaged an airplane enough to cancel the flight, B) Shoved a co-worker C) Got in the face of a female ESE that is about 4' 8" for referring to him by his last name (he is about 6' 4" 250#), and my favorite...D) Told me to "f**king relax" when I asked him to set up a gate for an arrival.

So it took four incidents for this individual to be let
go. When I was hired on by NW more than 20 years ago
while you were on probation if you called in sick one
time, that was enough to say goodbye, WE DO NOT WANT YOU.

I see the New NWA has some different guidelines as to
who they want to be taking care of their customers.

hey nwa will get what they pay for! unquality work from unquality people. Heck they already got unquality maintaince from unqualified mechanics! 😛

This is what I was thinking also,
they will take what they can get.....

The shame of it is....
good people like Kev have to deal with it, not upper management.
So in the long run its the good people that NW will loose also, cause they will grow tired of the normal BS and the BS put upon them unnecessarily by the morons answering these want adds.

The funniest part of it all is that they (NWA) can't even keep the Dregs of Aviation Interested...Example: PTO!

Yep.

In fact it took 3 of the 4 ESL's here basically saying they refused to have him on their crew (the 4th never saw him), before the manager would even think about it. Even assaulting a fellow worker wasn't going to do it. I'm willing to bet that if he had not damaged a plane, he'd still be around. Management is so afraid of the process of hiring a new person (not even taking into account the costs), that they'll pretty much do what it takes to appease people. I'm sure the thought of paying topped out people in the interim doesn't help.

Same when I was hired...In fact my "welcome speech" on my first day consisted of a very senior chief throwing his arm around me and saying, "You will be doing the worst jobs, at the worst time, on the worst days of the week. Now if that's okay, great; we really need the help. If not, just put your ID on the counter here, and thanks for coming out."

Everytime I've met a new hire, I've given some version of that speech. I think it's an excellent way to relate what I expect of them, and what they can expect.

So true.... 🙁
