What's new

IAM/US Mechanic and Related Update

I worked under the IAM for nine years and now the TWU for 23 years, I would rather have the TWU, but I prefer something else.
I think I would like to give AMFA a chance. There is a Teamsters drive in the works in Charlotte now though.

I found the IAM monolithic one man controlled and dictated my whole career at my first Airline. The good thing was that we did have a vote in kicking the president out. I also found that getting in to a leadership position in the IAM was controlled by kicks and if you did not follow the party line and dissented you would be sent to Siberia.

The TWU is not monolithic the Local presents do have a voice but the Transport division or International president are the ones that run the union and the members don’t have a vote on kicking them out.

Can't believe there's a teamsters drive... How well did they do for America West mechanics? Also, I know they're hated at United who is now looking to IAM or AMFA. You guys should start an AMFA drive, it's already going on at AA from the sounds of it.

I wish we would start a card drive for AMFA

With recent events going on. I totally agree. Not sure on the whole Teamster thing. This whole vote on the 12th is like a political race.

The IAM has been negotiating 8 months and next month are going to "Begin" discussing economic issues next month?? Sure we received a 3% raise in July...that was after 18 months, the norm used to be 12 months!!!! And how much did the medical go up on average last year? Thinking that pretty much negates the 3%.

One other interesting tidbit of information.... checking out aircraft out for heavy maintenance the other day.....including the lease return a/c work which the IAM lost....26 AOS out of that 6 being done in-house? Disregarding the lease returns....17 AOS...6 being done in-house? Airbus Narrow Body 10 AOS...(1) being accomplished in-house....(9) farmed out...737's (4) cks (3) in-house. (1) 57 and (1) 90 in-house!!! Explain again why we are the lowest paid mechanics in the industry becaue we do so much work in-house????

I hope that the mechanics at usairways and AA are working on a contract /agreement if this merger happens and not as usually be sucking the hind tit . Gentlemen lets get busy like the flt attendants and pilots are . Get pro active .

The IAM has also used classification seniority in a merger and used DOH for vacation etc...

Like myself I had a hire date for travel and vacation.

I had a Utility classification date and a Stock Clerk one.

AA/TWU goes by classification seniority for everything less vacation pick.

No they dont, it didnt happen at AA with the ramp, maintenance or stores with TW nor did it happen at WN with the ramp at Airtran and WN.

Anything the two parties agree to is accepted as fair and equiptable, up to and including straight stapling, alphabeticle, etc....

There are ~ a dozen methods that still meet the covenant of "fair & equitable."

McCaskill-Bond aside, do you honestly think any party would agree to a straight staple?

TWA/AA

But I guess McCaskill-Bond changed that
