I'm not saying the IAM is the best thing going, but what exactly do you think is going to change by switching to the teamsters? They have a good pr machine cranking out fliers, but seem to have no accountability once in place...

The Teamsters Drive may have lit the fire under the IAM's A** !!! Funny how after two years they decide to come around and visit a station?

Negotiations Update:

BDL maintenance will be closing MAR 03. Anybody else closing or reducing?

The only union that is a true Aircraft Mechanics union is the AMFA. Over at AA we have been screwed over by the TWU for all of my 27 years there. The TWU has used the sheeple in overhaul, automotive, and facilities to screw the line AMTs out of pay and benefits. The TWU is now further screwing line AMTs at AA by shutting down all line AMT locals and forcing all into one local. This move puts all AMTs at a severe disadvantage during negotiations - as if it could get worse. The IBT is no different, for example DFW AMTs would be lumped into a local in Houston with 5000 truck drivers. Double the dues, pension issues - nothing good. The IAM - well, you see what you have now, and what their track record has been for representing AMTs.

No line AMTs at AA will support the IBT...period! Overhaul is the only place where some AA maint & related people have been duped into signing an IBT authorization card. Start downloading AMFA authorization cards now or request some. The time is right, if and when a merger occurs, there will have to be a representational election - perfect time to get AMFA on the ballot.

They dont have one. And they also dont have a strike fund.

They dont have one. And they also dont have a strike fund.

Now there is a reason to keep the IAM...the mighty "Strike Fund" Really came in handy in "92". Stand back as we hate to piss off the "Fighting Machinists" The way the union caves into management, I really doubt we have to worry about a strike! Just keep voting till we get it right!!! Judging by the latest update, guessing we are still a ways apart from getting the "boat loads" of money the IAM Reps claimed when the visited our station a few months back when the "T" word was mentioned.

BTW, looks like its about time to get the organizers down to BNA to try and organize Embraer as I see 190 checks are now being farmed out to them.....

700, really time to open your eyes and see what the union is really about!!!

The TA you voted on post merger states 50% of billable hours are done in-house, and it is checked by the IAM.

Show me one unionized airline that doesnt permit outsourcing?

And the AMFA represented carriers have the highest percentage of outsourced checks.

WN has 585 planes and only does three lines of check.

Doesnt Alaska farm out all heavy checks?

I dont like AMFA if there is no pension fund. I really dont care about the strike fund

AMFA was on strike at NW for months and the members had no strike fund, AMFA depended on handouts from the UAW and others to survive.

AMFA was on strike at NW for months and the members had no strike fund, AMFA depended on handouts from the UAW and others to survive.

Meanwhile the IAM crossed a union picket line to do "struck work". "Handouts" as you call it?....I'm more inline thinking one trade union supporting another...not running across the picket line to work. And the IAM called the pilots the bad guys in 92?

As for the "billable hours", still really can't comprehend how they come up with that figure and where the monies go if the company goes over that figure?

The same old story, the ramp did more ancillary work throughout the NW system then AMFA represented employees. Any IAM represented employee did not have to cross a picket line if they chose so and woul dnot be disciplined. When AMFA struck NW imposed a new cba removing ancillary work from the CBA, and the work was all ready in the IAM/ESE CBA, so if a ramp person did not do the work they would have been charged with insubordination. And explain to me how airstarts and receipt and dispatch broke AMFA?

My problems with the pilots are that they cleaned planes, during the 30 day cooling off period, which hundreds of grievances were filed upon and performed work that was not in their CBA during the strike. Also ALPA and US made a secret deal that all the pilots would get paid regardless if they flew or not. US grounded all the 737-200s, F100s, DC-9s, F28s and MD-80s yet every pilot got paid as long as the pilots didnt honor our strike. Even the AFA honored our strike till a Federal Judge ordered them back to work.

If the company exceeds the billable hours, the amount of hours is added back into the workload for the next year and prevents them from outsourcing more work and brings more work in-house, its clears as day in the CBA if you take the time to read it.

Once again, dont let the facts get in your way.
