And then, there are those matters involving organized labor.

US Airways has completed labor agreements with passenger service employees, dispatchers, flight simulator engineers and flight crew training instructors. But it's still in negotiation with pilots, flight attendants, fleet service employees and mechanics.

Until those deals are done, the unions can be expected to continue to take every opportunity to rain on US Airways' parade.

While the union trouble is a glaring exception, the blending of US Airways and America West has done what executives said it would, operationally and financially. As a result, chief executive Doug Parker continues to be an advocate of industry consolidation and wouldn't rule out his company being a participant if the right deal came along.

Here's an interesting quote from the article. You wouldn't beleive that if you've been a regular here on US Aviation. I thought we were lagging behind everybody.

A year ago, the airline surveyed customers to determine how it could improve its inflight service, particularly on international flights. The airline asked customers to rank it against other transatlantic carriers in the areas of flight attendant treatment, meal quality, selection and presentation, wines and other onboard amenities.

The survey determined that US Airways finished ahead of American, Delta and Northwest, but behind Virgin Atlantic, British Airways, Lufthansa, Continental, Air France and United.

The survey was done before the Tuna Burritto showed up in Envoy class! I'm sure that US would come out on top now that they are serving the yummy Tuna Burritto!

I would think if they only surveyed their own customers it is a flawed survey.

That sounds farking disgusting and looks even worse. And to embarrass us more, there is sliced white bread in the middle to fill it up more. Ew.

I bring my own food because I will not touch anything from airport concessions or restaurants. If you see what I do, you'd do the same!

i hope you are joking. this can't be true. i mean it is the meal for the premier cabin on high revenue routes, right?

Let's see what they had to say.....

"This was the second and last trip on US Airways for my wife and I. We gave them a second chance due to their competitive pricing, but again we got far less then we paid for."

"An unusual experirnce for this airline as service was consistently good on both legs."

"They lost my bag, which is not the first time. If possible I will try my hardest not to fly this airline again."

"A330 from Manchester was showing its age and looked battered and grubby. The food was possibly the cheapest that US Air could buy in and best avoided."

"Yet another experience which confirms this is no longer a serious airline."

And that's just the first 5 comments......

Here's some interesting info from the article ....

Operationally, US Airways had the best on-time performance in the industry in December and January,

US Airways is looking ahead to 2008 and the years ahead. The company rolled out its "RCA" strategy - offering customers better reliability, convenience and appearance.

The airline's will grow its operations in Europe. Philadelphia and Charlotte will get more flights to London, Rome, Paris, Frankfurt and Amsterdam. Once the airline's East Coast hubs have their European service firmly established, the company will look at adding flights from Phoenix to Europe.

US Airways will make a major investment in new aircraft. Between 2008 and 2011, the airline will acquire 17 A330s and begin retiring its fleet of Boeing 767 jets. Long-term the carrier is to buy 22 Airbus A350 jets. A350 will be more technologically advanced than its Boeing counterpart, the 787 Dreamliner.

US Airways plans to beef up its inflight offerings. Will improve its Envoy service, an upscale product offered on flights to and from Europe. On flights to Europe, the company will provide better quality meats in its meal selection, increased portion sizes, entrees with light sauces and uncomplicated flavors, improved premium domestic wine selections and upgraded pillows and blankets.

With on-time performance on the rise, the airline next will look to improve its mishandled baggage performance. The company plans to enhance its automation for baggage handling so that suitcases can be scanned at all points of handling.

The company plans to boost investment in technology by installing gate readers at all locations, expand off-site check-in terminals, install passport and credit-card readers and add new wireless communication applications.

The company will be upgrading cabin interiors on its aircraft, revise and upgrade its cleaning standards and put employees in new uniforms to improve appearance.

From TradingMarkets.com

By 2010, the company will have Airbus A330-200s, planes capable of flying long-haul destinations from Phoenix, said US Airways president Scott Kirby. Flights to Europe, rather than Asia, will be first out of the gate from Sky Harbor, Kirby said.

But by then the hometown airline could be a lot bigger -- and possibly based somewhere other than Tempe.

Kirby wouldn't say whether an apparently scuttled merger attempt between Northwest Airlines and Delta Air Lines opens up an opportunity for US Airways to jump into the fray.
