Well, I didn't think so, but was just checking.

really? I would say that it's 50/50 at best.

Fair enough.

Thanks for taking the time to explain. It should be no surprise that I don't see it that way at all, as my experience in a union shop has been overwhelmingly positive, but I appreciate your perspective.

I tossed up a poll to see where people stand. Maybe its just that the pro-union folks are more vocal?

Wadded your panties right up. I can just imagine you foaming at the mouth while typing all of that.

Am I speaking lies DAL MECH? Come on, for once in your life, fess up. Tell me that I am a liar by stating facts that will discredit my comments. You are who you work for DAL MECH. You should work in management because you're great in not going head on with questioning. You must have some real nice dancing shoes the way you tapped danced around my question. For anybody reading this thread read very carefully what was mention between me and DAL MECH about the topic at hand. Don't let his words, comments, or opinions sway you away from the truth. The comments that were made on my behalf holds merit and any questions about my comments feel free to send me a email threw usaviation.

Talking about my dancing? Ask a direct question, maybe you will get a direct answer.

Any word on when/if the IAM plans on holding a vote...as far as we (DAL) know, they've been mum up this point.

What was the reasoning for going with the non-union job? And I guess I have to give you choices too huh? Like Richard "give" you guys what you beg for or like back in 99 they stopped profit sharing and gave you guys approx 8%, then turned around and had a record profit of a billion plus. You guys didn't question the change nor cared because you half listen and took what was giving from people who are not responsible to protect, uphold quality, or improve your pay, but you jump on it like a dog on a bone with no questions.

Seems like you have all the answers already WoRkInG, what do you need me my response for?

I will humor you just a bit anyway. Heres a example of why I wont sign a card. It took nearly 4 years after 9-11 for me to get laid off. If I was at another carrier, at the same seniority, I would have hit the streets 2 years earlier. While laid off I had the opportunity to talk to many different mechanics form other airlines. The one that sticks out most is the United guy that 19 years and was sent packing, went from a nice job, to making 20 bucks an hour and barely being able to feed his family. I asked him what his stance was on unions, we actually discussed it quite a bit, he was a very pro union guy. Not any more.

Can you tell me we in this industry haven't all made concessions? If you say you haven't you are a flat out liar.

My job is quite satisfying for me. I enjoy the work, I am making more money every year, and I dont have to have a union waiting for their cut every payday.

So don't ask me any more "questions". You standing on your soap box talking down to me is getting very old.

I would gladly have this discussion face to face, I hate typing.

Of course I will not ask questions if you are not going to answer them (you still didn't answer with a rationale answer). Besides Delta didn't lay you off till further notice, they cut your pay and lied to others who went threw the RIF and said,"When openings come you will be the first we call on". That was not true. Scabs, Super Seniority, pulling shop boys to the floor. I see your leads and they are confused as ever!!! I guess it's because of the merger <_< . Also you mention 9-11, wahhhhh!?!?!? I pray to GOD an event like that doesn't happen again. What about the "Delta Culture" or the "Delta Family" as reasoning. You talked to a union worker from United? Sorry, I can't believe that one. Okay lets say you did. Well, did he say he will never work for a union or take a job from a unionized workforce? Oops I'm sorry, I asked a question. Why not a SWA mech? Oops I did it again. Do you really think Delta went by company length of service? Man I can't stop asking questions. Maybe you should have asked the questions so I wouldn't be asking you "WHY". I know for a fact that some guys with less seniority stayed while you had to pack your bags and put your name on the callback list. I guess now I am the reason why you don't want a union. That's fine, because your time will come and I will be on your mind when that time comes. As far as meeting face to face, you don't want to do that, you might be shocked "DAL Mech". INDUSTRY LEADING COMPANY WITH INDUSTRY STANDARD PAY. Think about it

I actually worked with the United guy. His feelings were he would avaoid another union if possible. I also worked with AA and US Air guys. (I made the mistake of working at TIMCO in GSO for a short while.)

There were issues with the RIF call, theres no doubt.

I only mention 9-11 to show the FACT that unionized carriers cut man power way before Delta did. A shake up was coming for our industry, 9-11 was just the spark.

I am willing to have a discusion with anyone, why would I not want to meet you, is there a threat in there somewhere? My time will come? What is that supposed to mean?

To give youself credit for me not wanting a union is awfully big headed of you. 🙄

Interesting...

How so? Can you expand on that a bit for those of us that weren't there?

The communication about our options that were available was seriously lacking. Many took the RIF and didnt really have to, they could have slid into other positions. Taking a lower level position, it was explained the pay cut would be immediate, that wasn't the case. There were seniority issues with the call back as well. Some of it had to do with the call back preference sheet that we all had to fill out(but I'm sure it was all Delta just screwing us 🙄). Machinists didn't take any layoffs, so there were some low time guys there. I believe high cost cities kept lower time guys, operationally there wouldn't be much choice.

A bunch of little stuff that could have been done better. Do I believe it was done maliciously? No.(Im sure that statement will garner some insults) I believe it was unfamiliar ground for the management.

Im sure there was stuff that a union could have helped out with being that they are so good at laying folks off.(That was for you Working)

There is only a few facts in life. You will die, there will be good times and bad times, and you cant please everyone. Why cant some people just accept that a union isnt for everyone?

By the way Kev, the poll is 2:1 for. Told ya.

You just accept the above in some cavalier fashion???

That seniority issue could have meant being out of work for years?

So I just walk away, saying oh well, while some new hire stays because they like him better, or it is more convenient that way for the local Management?

Unreal.
