After speaking with a few of the former AA now working in PHX, I could see an obvious problem as it relates to furloughed workers. As I understand regarding the TWU contract, if one accept the furlough, then their seniority begining to decline day-for-day after a couple of months, but with the IAM, one keeps their seniority during the entire furlough time.Talos said:The money is coming from us. This Javits guy sounds like he is making a huge deal out of this. Bringing in a law firm will cost. Also, the seniority situation which we were told was taken care of a long time ago must have serious issues. Either that or this Javits guy is just milking the cow along with the lawyers at our expense. If this is about crew chiefs they can just let the IAM stations keep it their way and the TWU stations their way. aybe there is more to this.
So hypothetically, two fleet service agents one with US and one with AA, starting the same day, furloughed after 10 years with their respective companies hit the streets for 2 years, until they are recalled or transfer to another station. The US agent will have 10 years of seniority, while the AA agent will have closer to 8 years. This will be a real problem as the US agent with 10 years (2 year furloughed) will be ahead of even an AA agent with 9 years and never furloughed.
As we have large numbers of furloughed workers in the PHX station with varying degrees of furlough time, I could see this being a huge issue for some, and even with the AA guys working under different understanding as someone being furloughed and their seniority.
