Judge Blocks NW f/as right to strike

Oh, I just read that the Justice department pushed that a strike would cripple the US. I get it now, the DOJ doesn't do a think last week in the Microsoft case but claims the stews at NW will bring the US to their knees.

I doubt you ever see another strike if a judge or president can stop it if it looks like it could put some saberteeth in labor's mouth.

At any rate, labor is still divided at NW and is paying a terrible price since the AFL unions stuck with politics and greedy company execs instead of supporting unionized mechanics.

Im all in favor of the American Labor movement and its 'full blown' lifeblood geared towards politics and dues, to pack up and leave town.

regards,
<_< ---- So why is the Justice Dept. getting involved? Wouldn't this fall under the Labor Dept.? But then again, isn't the Sec.of Labor ex-NWA???

Follow the money. This administration in NOT friendly to labor, the Justice Department is an extension of Dubya the Worst.

Remember In November. Vote ALL Republicans out!

Funny at the M&R Meetings she told us quite clear we could strike.

Hearing what you only want to hear Timmy?

At the fleet meetings, Sharon was not nearly so clear with the in's and out's of striking.

And, at the last district meeting to committemen regarding the second concessionary contract, less than one minute was given to discussing a strike.

There was no strike prep because the IAM didn't want one.

I applaud the f/a s for not agreeing to the abusive, one-sided traxh they have been confronted with. The 2 unions have shown much less leadership than the individual flight attendants. It seems that everyone wants less for other people as long as it doesn't affect them.

which has 7,300 members on the job at the airline.
*********Absolutebullshit and should be quickly (VERY QUICKLY) appealed to the Supreme Court.

This is history-in-the-making folks.
I don't think this bodes well for any Airline labor group. But if they did take this to the Supreme Court, it scares me a bit. When Alaska went to court to defend CHAOS as a legal strike method, it was upheld I believe by the 11th Circuit Court. Correct me if I'm wrong, but that's the left leaning court that the conservatives HATE and want disbanded or broken in to several more courts.

The Supreme Court could reverse that decision and a valuable strike technique would be lost forever.

I heard that every Airline CEO endorsed this TRO in a letter to the court.

The radical leftist tree-hugging, owl-loving bench is the 9th Circus Court Of Appeals, based in Frisco (of course).

The legality of chaos is not the issue before the court. The issue the court needs to decide is whether the RLA provisions on mediation and 30 day cooling off period are applicable when a bankruptcy court has permitted the debtor to impose terms upon a work group following contract abrogation.

Don't forget that the judge who issued the TRO is a Clinton appointee - a lifelong democrat.

Hmmm... Clinton appointed the judge who granted the TRO, and IIRC, Clinton called more airline PEB's than any other president since Deregulation.

Yet it is the Republicans who are unfriendly to labor? Please...

Go put your tin foil hat on and look for the black helicopters flying over your subdivision...

The masses must be allowed to strike!!! If that option is lost, then companies will just force-feed rectally any contract which they desire to impose with no threat of retaliation by collective work groups. It is union busting at its finest when they say it is illegal to strike. Why should management even want to sit down and negotiate? They will just impose whatever they feel like. It is a crime against the unions and the working man. just my thoughts.....

No, I just have the facts at hand:

Kennedy (D) holds the title of being the President who has issued more PEB's in history, which is even more impressive if you consider that he didn't serve out both terms.

Since 1960, Democrats have used the PEB (61 times) more than Republicans (41 times), which is ironic considering how few Democrats have held the presidency and how much labor supports the Democratic party.

Bush II = 4 (2 being UA/IAM and NW/AMFA)
Clinton = 12 (1 being AA/APA)
Bush I = 4
Reagan = 18 (13 of them dealing with either the LIRR or PATH)
Carter = 10
Ford = 5
Nixon = 10
Johnson = 9
Kennedy = 30

Before that, there hadn't been any hint of presidential intervention with negotiations or strikes at airline unions since 1966, even during the darkest days at Continental or Eastern.

So, before you start making this a party vs. party issue, at least look at the entire picture and realize that in many ways, the Demoncrats have been talking out of both sides of their mouth when it comes to being Labor's Friend.

Looks like you've been drinkin' out of the ignorance well again . . .

Vote out the Republicans if that makes you feel better. But rest assured the alternative won't give a damn about you and your union friends any more than GWB does.

In fact, elect someone like Clinton as President so he can appoint more Democrats to the federal bench - like the judge who enjoined the strike last week.

Please yourself.

Are you honestly going to try to make the case that the goals of the Republican party are more in line with the goals of labor than the Democratic Parties' goals are?

Please...
