Pilots' union head applauds stake in 'new' AMR

Union president says pilots' stake in 'new' AMR should become more valuable after merger

DALLAS (AP) -- The president of a pilots' union says the value of pilots' share of a post-bankruptcy American Airlines should rise if the company merges with US Airways.
David Bates, president of the Allied Pilots Association, made the comment to his members after the union's board approved a tentative 6-year agreement with American on Thursday.

Pilots will vote on the deal, which would cut American's spending on pilots by 17 percent and give it more flexibility to outsource some of its flying to other airlines.
But the union, which supports a potential bid for American by US Airways Group Inc., also got some goodies in the deal: Pay raises, no layoffs, and a 13.5 percent equity stake in the "new" American that emerges from bankruptcy.

Bates told pilots that union advisers said "that if a merger between American Airlines and US Airways takes place — whether during restructuring or after AMR emerges from bankruptcy — the value of that equity stake should increase, since the overall enterprise value would go up through the combination of the two airlines."

Pilots are expected to start voting in July with the ballots counted on Aug. 8. If pilots reject the contract, a federal bankruptcy judge could impose even tougher conditions by letting American break its union contracts.

Amazing how the APA has asked a handful full of us to help them out because they just don't give a crap about what USAPA has to say.

This merger is coming and that's a guarantee.

I think you're wasting your time. Luv will never accept the fact that AWA aquired US Airways. He'll put his fingers in his ears and go, "nah, nah, nah," all day long. It doesn't mean that the transaction didn't save both airlines though. AWA could have never afforded to pay for that kind of expansion on it's own. We know the truth and so does everyone in the financial world, it's just a huge blow to his ego though because his airline was aquired by what he viewed(views) as a regional commuter. Put in that situation I might behave in the same manner, especially if you consider all the false information he was fed, not just by USAPA, but by US ALPA prior and during the merger. If all you're fed is horse $%#@, what do you thinks going to come out when you open your mouth?

usapa on the other hand, founded to renege on an agreement, failing the DFR to a full 1/3rd of its class, is relegated to meaningless, parked by the NMB, outside any sphere of influence, because it fundamentally cannot do anything in good faith.

He didn't claim that they were claiming to legally represent any or all USAir pilots. That would be sorta like fraud, or maybe exactly like it.
