Legit 3rd Party Providers?

There is nothing in this article that I have not stated before. Third party repair stations should be required to hire A&P mechanics and not someone off the street as they do now. Every mechanic that works on aircraft should hold an A&P. I have stated this before. I do not believe in overseas outsourcing the FAA needs to put a stop to this immediately, I have also stated this before. The FAA needs to start putting the screws to MRO's particularly Mobile and San Antonio, There is nothing in this article that I disagree with so what is your point?

I think the point was is your one of the MRO pukes they are talking about in the article.

When are you guys going to learn that MRO's are a fact in your industry that you are going to have to live with? Sorry chas but I am not a MRO puke, I am an Airframe and Powerplant Mechanic. Let me tell you something else, there is nothing here that I can not do. Your almighty AMFA Boys however are having problems. I am not speaking of the ones that have worked the line or the hangars their careers those guys are on top of things. It is the ones that worked in the shops their entire careers that couldn't change a tire if their lives depended on it. Many are where we were at on the paperwork when we first started. These guys are clueless with ten and fifteen years in. I wouldn't be so quick to dog the MRO's if I were you.

Have any of you ever thought about opening your own MRO?

The FAA is indeed lacking a presence at the MRO's. Well over half the mechanics do not hold A&P Certificates. I have never been ramp checked until I came to NWA. The only time I have ever seen the FAA at an MRO is when a rudder panel blew off an aircraft on a test flight. There is very little FAA oversight and I am sure there is none at the overseas facilities. I hope that the latest incidents will bring some changes to the current system. MRO's need more oversight and it should be mandatory that only A&P Certificate holders are allowed to work on any commercial aircraft. No overseas facilities should be able to work on US registered aircraft. Do you guys have any idea what this will do for the "AMT" craft? Your unions have no idea as how to help the craft that you guys bash companies in an attempt to protect.

I agree with PTO. MRO's have their place in Aviation. Granted they should hire more certified A&P's do not totally count out the uncertified Techs. I worked with a guy in WA that was a crew chief on AF1. No A&P though.
Another thought to consider is that not one of the mistery MRO's in the article was mentioned by name, or what Airlines used them. Further more, the use of the term Airline, in no was always points to the Majors. A two man flight team that delivers mail according to the FARs can be classified as an Airline. I would question the Validity of this article without fruther proof and specific instances and less generalizations. Media based criticism is often times writen in such a way that the writer knows that a reader is going to be outraged by the article, thus creating the drama that sells his paper.

The Star Tribune is a prime example of this. I would also put Rob/Bob Malone of Action 4 in this catagory as well.

There are some very fine mechanics out there that do not hold an A&P. However for the wage standard that the unionist would like to maintain it would require that all aircraft mechanics would have to hold an A&P.
