I am based at JFK. We have had an average of about 5-7 trips in open time every morning with the majority going to reserves. There are at least 70 people on reserve per day, unknown on availability, and countless on male-up.
I put in for a PVD for a turn yesterday and today. Did I get it? No! It was green until Monday! I know they are not suffering for manning, so can someone in the know please fill me in? I ended up dropping them with virtually no hope of make-up available! Tell me about not calling in sick?! Why are things made harder than they have to be? This is so frustrating!

On the top there I meant the majority going to availability! and make-up not male-up!: 🙄

I hear you....the same thing happened to me on Monday....no PVD. Meanwhile, I have a friend who is 6900 seniority that has been on makeup and can't get a trip. He would have been happy to pickup my 2 day LHR on Monday but since I didn't get my PVD it wasn't available. I smell something very fishy. It must cost the company money to give out PVDs because there is no logical explaination of why this is happening.

Now Now....Lets remember, AA management's job is to make everything look as bleeeeek as possible...
Their bonues depend on how well they can make things look like AA is ready to close the doors tomorrow.
It's all part of the Corporate Vision..... We have all seen it before....

Think about it. Why would AA want to pay, if they were not bound by language to do so, for more VC time than they have to? Bottom line PVDs cost AA more in VC time then for the FA to take the time in a block. Its that easy......

To give the company a small break (though it pains me to do so), there are a LOT of people on the sick list. I know that PVD grants are based on some percentage of an active base being ready, willing, and able to fly (i.e., not on the sick list for the most part). Or, the reverse is that no more than some percentage of the active base is on the sick list. At SLT, we have almost 10% of the active base on the sick list today. Therefore, no PVDs at SLT. In fact, there has been no one available for airport standby for the past 2 days.
Today, they are transferring trips out of SLT to other bases.

We have some f/as who have managed to get intermittent FMLA for migraines, anxiety attacks, and some other nebulous reasons. Interesting coincidence...these migraines and anxiety attacks only seem to occur in reserve months and availability months, and only AFTER Crew scheduling has called the sufferer with a trip.

Jim in all fairness, When ever crew schedule would call me I got a stabbing pain in my eye. It would continue to get worse as I got closer to the employee parking lot.

Jimintx- Its called smarts. Use your resources wisely and only when needed as they are finite...

It sure is nice to see people working who really want to be there...

But the RSVs are only flying 40-50 hrs.... Why not burn up some VC time with F/As already getting paid???There's got to be an advantage to using RSVs for PVDs... I just cant put my finger on it...

You said right there. If you can get a low time RSV to fly a PVD you covered the trip at 1/2 the price. Since the RSV pay is factored in to the month, and will be paid to fly or not. If you hold for a regular vacation month. The company has to pay the FA on vacation and the FA covering it

I have 9.40 for the month with one more reserve day to go then 4 days vacation, I have flown 1 turn.
