What's new

M&E reductions announced

I wasn't referring to people who's pension got clobbered. I'm referring to high senior people who are well off financially but they are still hanging around costing less senior people a position at AA. I understand there is a guy at JFK or LGA that won the lottery yet he is still on AA's payroll. There are several high timers in Tulsa and other stations that should have retired a long time ago,yet they are still here costing someone a position.

I know it's tough when your job is on the line, but you can't expect someone to quit to save another person's job.

Some people like to work. I'm one of them. I found something I enjoy doing and I foresee doing it for quite some time. I would like to make more money doing it, sure, but I'm still going to do it until I can't.

As for not having to work and working, that would probably make anyone's job THAT much more enjoyable.

<_< ------dvl, I'm going to be honest with you. First and foremost, is the amount of money AA is giving Mr. Ross per year in lease payments. (a lot!) Second, from what I hear is AA's not getting any work out of you people. ( may, or may not, be true!) Third your reputation for being a bunch of radicals. (again, may, or may not, be true!)
Transplant, I have no idea about what the lease is on this place. I`m sure however our tax people find a way to write it off. Now about afw`s rep of being radical/militant thats at least partly true. These days not as much as it used to be. Trust me we still have plenty of clowns here that need a reality check. The latest stupidity are the "inmate" " afw correctional facility" shirts they are wearing.
The AFW work ethic? I`ll give you a pass on that comment as you are not here. Sure we have our share of slugs and then some. Honestly the biggest problem we have is supervision. Where we get these guys I have no idea. Let me share with you just one example. I was in the left seat running and airplane several weeks ago. The airplane had accel/decell problems that had been addressed and we were running to see if it was fixed. Well it was not. I called on the radio to let my CC know and tell him to order an MEC. Now transplant I have not been around nearly as long as you. However I have many an engine run under my belt, 12 years worth. I know a bad MEC when I see one. Supervision sez "do not change the mec", they wanted a rig check and check the vsv,vbv cables...AGAIN. Long story short a week later, guess what...we changed the MEC. My point is we are constantly fighting with them and in turn our production looks crappy. This is just one example of ongoing stupid crap we deal with from these guys on a daily basis. I could go on but I won`t. I`m just getting more worked up. Hey, have a great day....

<_< ----- dvl, I hope this turns out well for all of us! But I really don't know on this one! I know there has been a rivalry between AFW and MCI, but I'm not the type of person to gloat on anyone losing his job. As for knuckle head supervisors, and managers, we have our share of them also. Most common, they'll dance around doing a ten minute fix for three days! like the man said, we both could be gone before it's all over! we'll just have to deal with it if it does come!--------- What else is new???

Those AFW people are a bunch of radicals  . They generally VOTE NO  to concessionary contracts. They said take your PLI,CI,JLT,etc. and shove it  . AFW should be shut down because they refused to give the company everything they wanted like TULSA  and MCI  did.

Tulsa  and MCI  should be rewarded with AFW's work for selling out their "union" brothers and sisters on The line and AFW.

Actually the attitudes and actions of TULSA  and MCI  disgust me. They are a bunch of SCABS who would screw their own grandmother for a hamburger.

Quite honestly, there is no one obligated nor should they be to retire so a less senior employee can keep his or her job. When I hired in over twenty five years ago in fleet service, I did not say once I've reached xxx many of years or once I've accumulated xxx amount of wealth I will then retire so a junior clerk can move up. I will retire when I'm tired of working for AA. This is a personal decision and has absolutely nothing to do with AA or the union. I have many friends who have left AA and ended up having to find employment elsewhere and that is something that I will not do. Who's to say whether I'm financially stable enough or not to leave the company at any given time, my family and I and no one else. Sorry, but if you consider this to be greedy or lacking in unionism, so be it.

Off the subject and not a popular subject but your missing the point from Princess. MCI indicates he is financially secure and does not need this job. Princess being younger has not achieved this point yet and needs a job. Therefore the financialy secure person who doesnt need a job is preventing someone who does from working. What happened? I witnessed my Grandpa (Phillips 66)and Dad (Procter and Gamble) retire as soon as they could. They neither had glorious pension plans either it was investing and planning which we all need to do. It seems retirement is not an option to this 60 to 70 year old generation.
I didn't miss his point. No one should be forced to retire if they don't want to. To make it sound like everyone that has high seniority is well off is more than likely wrong. The way he comes off is selfish at best.

Jimmie Rae Jr, is currently drawing his pension check of $6000.00+ per month, in addition to his Crew Chief Paycheck of $5800.00 per month, and his Social Security Check of who knows how much. He still rides his motorized wheelchair to work everyday, uses a cane in each hand to get to his car. Although everyone seems to agree he should retire, nobody should make that decision for him.

We all know that Jimmy Raes dream is to be the number one man on the seinority list and as long as A J Blackman is drawing breath he will never let that happen.

Jimmy Rae and Al Blackman are taking up two roster spots on the seniority list. Someone has to say it and it might as well be me. They are going to cost two mechanics their jobs because of THEIR SELFISHNESS. I've met both of these gentlemen and they are good people, but what they are doing by staying at AA is just plain wrong.

<_< ------ Oh Don't take me wrong! In these times anything can happen, including shutting down MCI. After all if fuel keep going up, this won't be the only RIF!!!------ If I sound a little complacent it's because I have the luxury to able to say I can retire anytime now. With, or without AA! Preferably with! But time will tell!!!

<_< ------- All right princess! Your brave when it comes to expressing yourself on this board! Maybe someone should tell them! You know, face to face! Your idea, so you should do it! Go right ahead and tell them "THEIR SELFISH!" and staying is just plain wrong!" I've meet these type people before. It's gotten past the money for them. It's their lives! But you wouldn't understand that, would you? You force these two out, and they'll be dead within six months!! Go ahead princess, the balls in your court!!! Do your thing!!

Who knows what the good ole twu and the company have up their sleeves at this point. Both AFW and MCI days maybe numbered at this point. The decision to move all work and back shops to Tulsa may have already been laid. At this point we need a legacy airline to fail and oil to drop or or trade and future as we know it may have just began its final decent. No finger pointing or name calling for me just plain hard facts that I have to come to accept.

I'm disgusted. The two guys mentioned here earned their place at the top of the seniority list thru years of service. Had the senior guys not put in their time, there wouldn't be a place for you junior guys to eventually work.

Well
For everyone's sake I hope AFW stays up and running. But it does look like a credible rumor that it will change or close. I worked their 9 years ,Tulsa 2 and DFW almost 8. I presently work at the DWH hanger and just don't see how this place could have supported 1500 people !

I have seen the shop areas and they don't compare to AFW in size at all. The hanger does have two AC docks.I have only seen one in use at a time though. Presently only one bay equipped to do a 777 engine change in. And two more small bays for S80's or 737's. We don't have any gear pits here.

We have done several 767 light C checks here on AA.Presently doing a C check for a charter outfit. We also have done OTS work on our fleet and Delta lease returns. Not to mention many S80 health checks. For everyone out their that thinks they have it figured out on where the work and the people go , that will be up to AA as the TWU will give them what they want and blame us for it.

Having worked at TASEL for 8 years in the past I don't think I would separate from AA for that gig either. In 1995 some of their fitters "mechanics" came to the shop to help train us.They came from Rolls Royce Darby England .They made exactly 1/2 the 48K we made at the time in USD !

However it shakes out good luck to us all !
