Does aa ever plan on opening up some maintenance position anytime this century? just curious...
Do yourself a favor, run, run away very fast. You can make more fixing cars. I've been with AA for 22yrs and I can state that when I first started it was a fun job, I actually enjoyed what I was doing, now I dread going thru the turnstiles everyday, now its just a job.If I didn't have so much time invested towards retirement, or at an age where other employers would say well we really want someone whos going to stay for the long haul not a couple years and leave, I'd be gone in a heartbeat/or a New York Minute-they're only 15 seconds long/. There used to be a time where I said if I had won a large amount of cash in a lotto I'd still keep my job just to stay busy, now NFW, I'd come in give my tool box keys to the Svpr. and say give my tools away, I just Retired, but thats just me.
But on the other hand, if you have dreams, by all means follow them, just remember that the Airline business is a cyclical business, lots of ups and downs, and since 9/11 way too much security on the people who work on the aircraft/pilots,F/As,AMTs,FSCs/ these are the people who have gone thru background checks had fingerprints taken etc. but they are the ones who get scrutinized the most, go figure.
Now add the Greed factor of upper management and you'll see why very few people want in the airline business anymore. I suspect that within 20 years there will be such a shortage of AMTs the industry will be screaming for help, but given they way employees are treated we will see everything farmed out to overseas operations, from maintenance to loading to pilots, and you can see just by reading the papers and trade magazines that this has already started. But this is my take on the industry.
