Mda/republic

I was wondering the same thing, it seems to me the only commitment the company has lived up to is the one to furlough the division pilots and outsource ML flying to Republic.
Hopefully someone will know what that moa is about.

But why is Republic moving over there? They are Usairways Express. They are not mainline.

Sweetie, get over it. US Airways owns the gates and can put Dashes there if they wish!

... They are Express..so they should just stay where they are at..I am sure the guys and gals that are ramp in PHL mainline are not gonna be too happy working those express flights.

Have you been in Philly lately? The guys and gals aren't even properly working the mainline flights.

This is just rumor..so I really am not sure..but heard that the Republic flights will also be moving over from the F concourse to the C too! Has anyone heard this too? This has all got to stop. They are EXPRESS. I can not figure this out!! Hopefully this is not true..because if it is..whoah...it is gonna get crazy Nov. 9th over on the C concourse!!

Does anyone realize that there isn't enough room for passengers to sit in the express concourses anywhere in the system. It makes sense for passenger comfort to let them have seats while they wait to board their delayed flights. I don't like standing around for hours when I could be sitting.

70 and 90 seat aircraft parked on gates with 20 seats isn't going to work.

Shifting the topic slightly, a question for the MDA pilots.....

Tonight's code-a-phone had this:

A late agenda item was accepted for consideration. The MEC unanimously passed a resolution authorizing the MEC Chairman to execute a Memorandum of Understanding, under certain conditions, concerning the Company's commitments proposed in the Republic employment fact sheet. This resolution is also posted on the pilots only home page under "What's New."

The ALPA site gives this:

11/02/05 Special MEC Meeting Late Agenda Item

MOU

Motion: I move that at such time as the Association is satisfied that the company has lived up to the commitments proposed in the Republic employment fact sheet, and we are satisfied that applicable contracts are upheld, the MEC authorizes the MEC Chairman to execute the MOU.

Moved Svendsen/Simmons

Motion passes unanimously

My question is "What are these 'commitments proposed in the Republic employment fact sheet'."

Jim

Ok - a little background on this. We had 10 APL (Furloughed USAirways pilots)pilots from outside
MDA who agreed to a class at Republic on 27 Sep. Seven of them
showed up for class. Now that they have been in class for a while
they were wondering where their paycheck was. Well they were told by
Republic that they are only paid per diem during the first month of
training and not any flight pay!! Upon hearing this, one of the APL
pilots closed his book and said - See you guys later, I quit!! The
other 6 threatened to do the same and Republic said they would pay
them but had to clear it with the Teamsters (IBT). The IBT said that
was fine as long as they treated the CHQ and REP pilots the same way
and paid them too. Well of course Bedford couldn't find it in his
compassionate heart to do this (God Bless guy that he is)so our
management said that USAirways would pay them.

According to the IBT their contract allows for only per diem payment
during this month. We can't find that provision and it is being
researched now to see where it comes from. Further complicating
matters is the 'Republic Info sheet' that USAIrways sent to pilots.
It says that a pilot will be paid guarantee during training - since
the company maintains that this was a mistake they agreed to pay
them - but only for one month and not until they complete training.
These are the same people who pissed away money paying the 5 wayward
MDA pilots to sit home for 6 weeks waiting for their turn to go to
the dark side!! Five MDA pilots had volunteered for a class to begin in
early Aug. That class was cancelled and those 5 were taken off the
schedule and paid to stay home and await the next REP class. How can
a company in bankruptcy justify paying people not to work??

So the MOU would allow these pilots to be paid for one month during
training. It seems like a bucket of worms and I don't know what the
resolution will be and since there are many questions about it the
MEC gave authorization for Pollock to sign it once the research is
complete to preclude another special MEC meeting just to deal with
this one item.

I really wonder why these REPUBLIC pilots don't go to their TEAMSTER
reps and ask them for help. After all they are represented by them
now aren't they?

Hope this answers some questions and brings up some others that need
clarification.

Thanks, Viper. That clears it up a lot - now I do remember seeing somewhere that US was paying the APL pilots waiting on a class.
