Merged American Airlines to land on Nasdaq

Does anyone have a "simple" answer to the question...what is the advantage of a NASDAQ listing vs. NYSE?

I always thought that the primary purpose of the NASDAQ was to trade stock in companies not big enough or too high risk to be listed on the NYSE.

Just conjecture, but I think NASDAQ rules are less onerous and cumbersome than NYSE.  Kind of like the reason so many companies incorporate in Delaware.  Listing on the NYSE has its cachet, but I guess that has faded over time.

Thanks. I remember when the high-tech stocks were all listed on NASDAQ because the august folk at NYSE thought them too "fly-by-night, here-today-gone-tomorrow" companies. Companies like Sysco, Apple, Oracle, and the like. Only IBM, which also made sensible machines like typewriters and impact printers, deserved to be NYSE.
