Heard from a source it might be announced in the next few days also US will be parking more planes (total of 64 off the 281) Should be fun kids!!!!!!!!

Your "source" wouldn't be a pilot, I hope. US already is under 281 by quite a few. I think they are around 265 now with another 10-15 leaving in the next couple of months. I wonder is your "source" saying 64 off of 281 or 64 off the 250 or so they will have by August? Just my thoughts.........

cool, it doesn't really matter exactly how many planes got retired, what matters is that it gets rolled back so fleet integration and aircraft efficiency can be maintained. So 64 planes goto the desert out of the current 276(from the website). That still leaves 212 planes. Add to that your 135(am I correct on that number?) and you have 347, most of which are airbuses. My guess is that the planes to get the axe are the of the 737 variety, as they are older than the rest.

Let's just get it all done. I no longer care about such BS as seniority or pay, I just want to see it all get done. HP has a first class management team, the kind of team US should have had all these years. US still has some value, in that the hubs at CLT and PHL can be moneymakers with the correct application of talent - HP's talent.

Only sticking points in my mind are: a new name(US needs to go!), a new livery(Both HP and US liveries stink), and some good marketing. Apart from that, it just needs to happen. 🙂

This will be our 4th have no fear I have no desire to move west and trade by 73 for you 73. Then PSA folks are the only ones that might impact you. I don't think either side will notice much difference . Hang in there

I heard 64 off the 281 figure, will mostly be 737 I guess.

You'd better worry about seniority. If someone is crazy enough to flush money down the toilet in this merger, you can bet that most of U will be gone in short order . . . and a lot more than 64 airplanes.

Word is flying that it will be today or Monday. I think in the long run this will be good for both airlines. I think US needs HP management and HP needs US east coast route.

Also a big YES!!!! to what EL GATO said above.!!!

Actually, in the past I probably would have agreed with you there, but in this case I have to disagree. The whole deal rests upon the knowledge that although it may be the US name that survives, it will be Doug Parker and crew running the show, and US's incompetent management will be retired to play golf for the rest of their days. Seniority will be juggled to protect folks at HP; a staple job or a fence is the likeliest thing to happen.

Why is it so important? US needs Doug Parker to shape things up, while HP needs to expand rapidly now in order to survive WN's onslaught. Some people have asked, "why not just let US go to Chapter 7 and then scoop up the gates, planes, etc from there?" The reason that it is good to avoid that is that HP has nowhere near the cash on hand that WN does, and in a auction situation, there is no way HP would be able to compete with WN. WN would essentially swallow US property whole, with other airlines watching in horror as they gain a PHL,CLT and DCA hub overnight. Face it; no one has cash on hand to go shopping out there other than WN. A US chapter 7 would be a phyrric victory for the other legacy carriers, as the former US property would become part of their worst enemy in one fell swoop. Thus, the best way is merge US and chop it down in fleet size(and personnel) in order to digest it more effectively(Remember how your mom always said not to swallow more than you can chew? Same case here).

If an announcement is going to be made, later on today(Friday after 5PM) is a great time. Wall street won't have time to get antsy, and the press will be too occupied to go digging at it too mercilessly.

Easy comment to make but explain why????????? I think El Gato is correct if US goes chpter 7 WN will pick all the cherries and HP would be left standing there with nothing. Look at ATA as an example WN got concerned and pushed HP and Aitran out of the picture quickly. Cash does matter!!!!

It is becomming late on Friday afternoon in CCY...any announcements coming this afternoon?

U is so screwed up and the industry so bad now, I don't think Superman could save US Airways. It would take years and zillions of dollars into the money pit to give them time to fix U. Time and money they won't have . . . . . unless they get just some assets, no assumed debt and just s**tcan the rest. Even with AA asset purchase of TWA, the integration costs were staggering, not to mention the employee rancor.

AMR has 3 Billion (that's with a "B") dollars in the bank. Granted some of it is pledged, but there's an awful lot of spendable cash on hand these days. In fact, I have wondered what they are hoarding it for. The pension payments for this year have been made already, and the leases are current. Maybe AMR is planning for a little shopping spree of its own.

Ok, and you have to remember that AA is currently cash flow negative; i.e. they are loosing money. Spending cash out of the emergency reserves in the bank is not a smart thing to do, especially with gas prices about to rocket upwards.

I know you would love to see AA go on a shopping trip, but remember that WN has more cash, and can therefore outbid you.
