APFA would also like to alert our members to reports of an increasing number of crew member bag searches by Customs agents in MIA. In some cases, U.S. Customs is taking pictures of items found in crew members bags and reporting this information to AA corporate security. APFA is meeting with AA Corporate Security to determine what has brought about this noticeable change in MIA. So far it appears this is a rogue action by a few MIA customs personnel. Please spread the word with this reminder for all crew members who clear customs in any city, and MIA in particular.

You find this odd? In MIA, the TSA does not allow agents to bring bottled water or soda in their lunches, pretty much liquid of any kind. But, a pilot of flight attendant, who actually get ON the aircraft, can haul through a keg if they want to, they have full ignorant immunity.

As soon as the TSA laid down this rule, ALL beverages at machines and snack bars in all concourses went sky high in price.

So, what's wrong with this picture?

Ergo, it doesn't surprise me that customs is doing that and it wouldn't surprise me if AA corporate security put them up to it! They just have to make sure airline personnel aren't absconding with left over food or a mini bottle of their favorite!

Posted elsewhere, someone is mentioning that the company sent out a broadcast email regarding Rule 32 today. They must have some heads in mind that they want to see role so this is the advanced warning.

Might have something to do with the arrogance of some FA's sneaking through stuff and getting caught. Pattern forms and we all suffer for the actions of a few.

what ever happened to the Miami Customs bag search F/A's. Did they get terminated?

An IDF one did.

As a former union rep I always advocated that anyone carrying ANY company property in their bags have a list on file in Flight Service. That includes coat tags, cards, bandaids, ANYTHING that you might have in a smock pocket (never wore them) or a tote bag. Saves a whole lot of "explaining" during a crew kit check. This usually occurs when they are looking for someone and the whole crew is checked to keep it on the up and up. If anything is found, insure that it is placed in a secure envelope, sealed and signed across the seal...chain of evidence. ALWAYS ask for a union rep to avoid the he said, she said.
