I have been poring through the F/A working agreement and trying to find language that addresses the "systems irregular operations" provisions--per the CBS message--in both the pilot and flight attendant contracts. I Haven't found any language in our contract. If there's a flight attendant out there who knows what the language is and where in the contract it's located, or if the provision is a Me Too item and a pilot knows what this provision is please pass on the info. Thanks!
That f/a agrement the way it is written, is such a crock..
it has such language that we cant find...at PI you could find anything you wanted in the contract.. when we merger w/USAIr... the language
got put into many, many words, so they could bend and twist it they way they wanted too.
However, what is your specific question ??? What are you asking about irregular operations?

Astonishingly, Tempe did the right thing on this one. Governor Rendell in PA declared a state of emergency triggering the national guard and the "no one except emergency personnel" on the roads. This has been done in the past and US basically ignored it, imposing the "you better get here or else" threats. Of course, these last two storms have happened on weekends and that may be why state governments have had less patience with people being out and in their way.

Amazing though it is, flight crew are NOT considered emergency personnel . I think that law enforcement has gotten tougher about this than in the past, people know it, and have stared down their managers. You can't fire someone for complying with the law. Thus effectively imposing reasonable behavior on airlines. I remember in the 1996 storm it was me in my little sedan and the salt trucks on a major interstate. When I called scheduling, finally ten minutes from the airport their tune changed to "well, the airport is closed. . . "

Egads, could the desert people actually be learning?

DCA is still closed UFN. Terminals are open but airfield is closed and still snow covered. We are working to clear our ramp. It is doubtful we will open today. Best bet is sometime late Monday morning/early afternoon for opening.

In one US station, (it not affected by this event) management says roads closed or an emergency declaration from the Governor will not save anyone from points. "You chose to live so far from work. You could have chosen to live just down the road from the airport".

So did management violate the law and drive to work to apply the points to one's record or do they live a few hundred yards from the airport and walk to work? Hummm.....

"The beatings will continue until morale improves."

DCA done for the day @1400. No originators. Hopefully open for first bank at 0830 tomorrow.

according to baltimoresun.com website, the BWI Airport wont re open til mid day monday at the very earliest. they have at last i heard recorded 26 or 27 inches of snow and AMTRAK cancelled virtually everything as well. Also heard IAD is open but limited and DCA is shut

You are Correct !

When Amtrak shuts down, you (then) know you've got a REAL blizzard.

Read on the Wash Post, that a place 5 miles east of BWI, got "38" inches of "good stuff" for the ground water supply.

Hey ggiby there was a CBS message stating that the "System Irregular Operations" provision in the pilots and f/a contracts would be in effect through at least 2/7/10. I was asking what the provision specifically said because I found nothing in the our contract that specifically addressed it.

not happening now ...
hope it at least opens at 2:00 pm tomorrow????
anyone know???

This is another example of why the PIT hub should not have been closed! PIT could handle this and the airline wouldn't grind to a halt! No way would my PIT-LGW or PIT-FRA cancel because of a blizzard....we were better than Trans Global!
PIT can barley get there roads cleared....also the airport was closed most of saturday.

Any word on how much more is coming on Tuesday/Wednesday?

Al Roker just said on the Today show to expect another 5-8 inches in DC, a foot or more just west of there in W. Va.
