 US TO BOOST BOS FLYING IN JANUARY

In a press release today, we promoted expanded Caribbean and Latin American flying from BOS. From January through March 2009, we are expanding our nonstop offerings from Boston to eight winter getaway hot spots. With this flying, we’ll be the busiest carrier at BOS by average daily departures.

Go US!

US Airways has exceptional facilities at BOS from the wonderful Club to the Shuttle area. So roomy!

I wish US Airways would continue to expand at BOS. Everyone else's hub operations seems to come and go: AA, DL, B6 all grow- then go. Even Delta's PHL-BOS gets canned after January 5, 2009.

I read a lot of people here saying how US should focus on it's 3 powerful focus cites- DCA, LGA, BOS so I'm glad US is growing those.

I'm guessing a lot of this is O & D traffic, though there may be some connections from places like BUF, Maine. And with certain cities [in the Carribbean] getting slightly more frequency from BOS than PHL, why not a PHL-BOS-PLS routing?

At one time BOS had a lot of point-to-point flying which went back to PI & US before the merger. While I can't remember them all, I know that PI did GSO, RDU, ORF, along with the Hubs in BWI, DAY, and CLT. I'm sure that I missed a few, and don't recall what US had prior the the merger in 1989. Another city that had a lot of nonstop service was EWR, but that is all gone. In the early 90's the gang in CCY figured that everyone that flew US would be willing to go thru a Hub in order to get there...And as usual, they were wrong.

There have been many posts here about the pull down at EWR. The concensus is that there was a gentleman's agreement between US and CO. CO would pull out of all non-hub flying at LGA and concentrate on EWR, and in return US got the current US terminal (which is still leased from CO as it was being built for EA and CO) in exchange for US pulling down EWR. The F-28's and DC-9's operated most of the shorter routes.

I too have heard that story, and it makes sense. The boardings out of EWR were very strong at the time, and there was no reason to pull back in the way that they did. US could have done well in both LGA & EWR since they draw traffic from different areas, which are both heavily populated.

Would be nice to see non stop flights to Europe out of Boston and add a few flights to Florida. Yeah, I know, too low yielding but still nice to have them. I'm sure DAL and B6 aren't making a killing on these routes but still manage to fly them.

AA & DL, yes. B6, no -- they may have cut a few transcons, but they are by no means closing up shop.

This is good news to see. Several years ago, US was rumored to start BOS-SXM, but I guess B6 finally beat them to the punch. Still, I could see that or STT being added in the next year or two.

I've always heard that the reason US carriers are so hesitant to fly BOS-Europe is because of Massport's refusal to put customs in any other terminal other than E. It's a shame because the 757 is the perfectly suited plane for BOS as it has the legs to reach almost any major city in Western Europe.

Prior to 911 there were plans to construct a customs facility for US and AA after the shuttle terminal was built. Doesn't seam feasible now if they're aren't plans for future trans atlantic flights. It's nice to see US adding flights to the Caribbean.

US Airways did at one time have a BOS ATL route. I remember that.
Shortly after DAL announced plans to add BOS-DCA, with mainline a/c as a part of their shuttle, Wolfe added BOS-ATL. Didn't last long.. Most of those retaliatory routes never do..

Like PIT-CDG?

The Post-Gazette had an article about a $9 million dollar subsidy on the new route. Plus a 2 year waiver on landing fees.

After Tempe turned down $10 million.

No not like PIT-CDG. PIT is barely a focus city and anyones ball game. PIT-CDG will be short lived..

Maybe the Rocket Scientist Marketing Depart would think about a later flight BOS to CLT -----later than 6:30pm--this so's as to accommodate the Banking folks headed SOUTH
