New AA Union Drive

I never said it was a problem who is pushing it. I made an observation, is that a problem?

Whatsmore, I DO have a problem if you are peddling chinese t shirts, you can not have it both ways, if your going to talk the talk you better be walking the walk. We as an organization should be concerned about saving good paying American jobs including our own. If we are buying shirts and hats made in sweat shops then how are we doing that?

Are you telling me you have nothing made in Chnia in your closet or house?
You never go to Walmart?

To be effective, your anti-China position has to be across the board not just when it comes to union hats and tshirts.

You missed my point. Which is, Local Presidents have played a roll in this debacle, whether they want to admit it or not. They CAN be voted out. I'm sure many will be. And, it surprises me that you know people that are ok with lifetime INT positions, for the most part, these are people that aspire to get on of those coveted spots. I for one am not and do not.

Cone Head
you are the only one I've seen on this board that see's all sides of this.... Democracy , at least at 565, put the old AMFA guys in a leadership role at 565. Their President chose to bring this TA back. Now it is some how the Int. s fault? Did the Int. hold a gun to the 565 President s head? I dont think so.

Ex Pres.

Do me a favor find me a American Made T-shirt with a pocket with less than 2 weeks lead time per order that is either 50/50 blend or 100% cotton less than $12.00 ea send me the info of where to get it and we will by them!

Good Luck!

In 1999 I was the t-shirt guy and then it was hard to find today the man printing are shirts spent the day looking for just such a shirt so far the only maker in this country he can find does not make shirts with pockets. it is easy to set and talk about walking the walk but the men and women that started this drive did so out of their on pockets and freely give their time and effort and you are calling them on the carpet about the fact the shirt is made in central america which I would bet most of yours are also made find the shirt maker and let us know.

So, your telling me that the new organization that wants to organize us and keep our O/H in house and not contracted out to offshore facilities is going to supply us with hats and t-shirts made offshore? Sounds hypocritical to me and you just lost my vote. While convoluted to us, at least TWU with all its faults supports US labor. I.E every shirt and hat I ever got from the Local was union made.

Ex Pres, you know how it works. DV been throwing the BK crap out there all the time, political favors, people wanting to get appointed, c’mon, please tell me your not THAT naïve. You sir are saying that INT had nothing to do with the debacle we are witnessing? Please. Bob wasn’t the ONLY one that voted to bring it back.

Correction, every tee shirt that you bought with your dues money was union made. How's that $600 a year tee shirt? 😀

I am willing to bet that if AMP was to take over that they would buy union made tee shirts.

I wasn't telling you squat or taking a position on the issue. I was simply inquiring as to your level of walking the walk in your private life. Also, I wasn't asking your vote for anything either. Read my post again, I think your emotions clocked your comprehnsion of my question.

I hope to say Im not naive at all .... I came back with a no vote .... Would there be a circumstance where you would bring back a TA that was "begged" on you and not what you felt best suited your members need's? ... My point (and I thought yours) was that "old associations" seem to be meaningless .... maybe intregrety or lack of had something to do with this ??

My private life is none of your concern, no emotion, just fact.

Tell us your not just picking a fight to exploit AMP's total lack of integrity, a farce, for buying the wrong t-shirt.

In mourning someone will be on it! but do not forget will still have to have qty and lead time to deal with pal

Not trying to belabor this (no pun intended), but even in the rush to market, it's not OK to buy offshore for a union shirt...

Hate to say it, but that was a rookie mistake. Suck up the loss, admit and fix the problem, and give the sweatshop labor to Goodwill. I think your supporters will understand it taking a few days to get union made, union printed shirts.

AMP - touted as a more democratic organization correct? Correct. I make input as to what OUR course should be with regards to buying American apparel, part of the democratic process right? Right.. If its so democratic and I’m putting in my input, why is it being met with criticism?

Perhaps someone already made a decision about it and doesn't like my inquiring? Hmmm, where have we seen that before?

Additionally, in my mind, some that are fence sitters might move in the AMP direction if sold USA shirts and hats and someone might go the other way if sold imported shirts and hats. Just a thought.

If a small thing like this can cause someone to get defensive, well, what will happen when a big thing comes up? If you want to blindly follow, its your right, but for me I also have a right to inquire and not be met with criticism by those on the steering committee.

If it is a "small thing" OK. But you still have not answered the question regarding your anti-China anti-Sweatshop stand in your personal life. How much made in China is in your house? Do you buy at Walmart? Or is it just an issue with you when discussing AMP t-shirts? I am not gioing to blindly follow your pro-American lead until you explain how far you actually take this agenda of yours. I suspect you dont practice your preaching when away from this forum.

Wouldn't you have a much bigger impact recruiting your own supporters and picketing a few Walmarts on a daily basis while distributing information about labor issues? I mean it just seems you picked a speck of fly crap out of two tons of pepper to express your concern.

If it s a couple of days I agree totally if it takes three weeks we will have to see I do have some good news to report we might have found a vendor thanks to a firefighter who knew of a American Made that can deliver hopefully we can put this to bed.
