New China - U.S. Agreement

Here is a good summary of the new China-U.S. Bilateral Air Agreement signed today:

Every Legacy has issued a press release regarding their intent. When can we expect Mr. Parker to step up? US is, as usual, last in line. I do hope he has a strategy in place, especially regarding the acquisition of capable aircraft - NOW!

The only way US will ever get to China or any destination in Asia for that matter will be through a merger with NW. Barring that scenario, US will never get there on their own without another airline's aircraft and existing routes. This airline doesn't seek to grow on it's own or aquire aircraft in a quick and timely fashion...EVER! Doug's press release of intent to fly to China is a joke.

Although I do not have a reference for a direct quote, it is my understanding that the DOT will begin solicitations for the (new) 2007 Award very soon. The following article predicts the (2007) route will likely go to DL, with US getting an award to start service in 2009. A 2008 award is restricted to a lessor known China city.
