Lets be a bit more accurate on the story of this particular Aircraft.
The Acft had cracks that were discoverd after the paint was removed by a 3rd party vendor , all by pure mis-adventure and mis-handling I might add.
The FAA also discovered the same third party vendor digging out lap joint compound with razor blades in an un-authorized manner , creating additional scratches to skin areas prompting the deeper inspection and a subsequint return to PIT Heavy Maintenance for permanent repairs that require far reaching follow-up inspections , Thus its becoming the "Silver Streak"
I have pictures of the Acft leaving PIT Base Maintenance prior to the Dot.Com jargon being added...as I'm sure others have seen along the way too. The Acft did not look particularly bad in this hybrid stop gap scheme...and I'm sure the decreased weight could have some lasting benefits in fuel burn lessoning...as well as cabin cooling in the summer months...of course this is a biproduct of a mis-handled maintenance function by a third party....not a cost savings step by any measure.
I'm sure the benefits of an ill-handled cosmetic blunder would take years to re-coupe when people examine how long this Acft remained out of revenued service in both the 3rd parties facility and then again being ferried back to PIT to make it right again.
If I were a U customer...and would find the No-Brainer add-on lingo on the verge of an insult...afterall , it's up to the paying customer how he or she elects to spend their money and with whom? Maybe U management thinks that anyone that doesn't own or have access to a computer is brainless? The slogan implies that in a most direct manner.
Is it a no brainer to have concerns about performing internet commerce with new computer security concerns presenting themselves on a near daily basis?
Frankly , if I were John or Jane Q. Customer whom elects not to do business via the internet...I would find the "No Brainer" branding insulting and inflammatory. I would also likely elect to spend my money on another carrier whom is less likely to insult my choices in how I choose to give them money too.
