Sadly, Providence is being cut even further by AA. Effective 3 April 2006, the three daily S80s become three daily RJs to O'Hare. Memphis will likely be next to go all-Eagle. Columbus was supposed to go all-Eagle, but I've heard that they reversed that plan.

I guess the chance of turning a profit this year has forced the company into stupid moves such as this.

Is that stupid from an employee point of view, a marketing point of view, or a financial point of view?

Leaving a station fully staffed with TWU for just four mainline trips a day (including the wildly profitable DFW trip), is financially irresponsible. PVD has had only 5 mainline trips during most of 2004 and 2005, putting them well below the 2555 cap for outsourcing the ramp, yet that didn't happen for some reason.

It's not a twu staffed station per all seniority lists, just gate agents and an untold number of management workers.

PVD was destaffed of TWU ramp a loooong time ago.

"E",

Don't feel bad.

EVEN ALI lost a "fight" every once in a GREAT while.

My friend, PVD was twu destaffed sometime before 8/97.

Sad day for PVD, to be sure.

This is just another "move" towards a "prophecy" envisioned 10 years ago, by "Uncle" Bobby CRANDALL.

"Let the other carriers cut each others throats over peanuts $$$$. If it gets to that point, AA will fly only International, Transcon, and point to point from the Hubs, to Major/BIG cities ONLY" !!!!!!!!!!!!

If things $$$ don't change for the better DRASTICALLY, by the next contract, look for the TWU(useless) to give away the station protection clause. Should THAT happen, (using the east coast as an example), AA would be in the following cities only.
BOS
JFK
LGA
EWR
PHL
DCA
IAD
ATL
MCO
TPA
MIA
+
SJU
(These stations would be twu staffed by the 2555 rule ONLY)

THAT would mean, bye-bye AA mainline in BDL-BWI-RDU-CLT-JAX-PBI-FLL.

And That's just the east coast.

how sad, pvd is being taken over by low budget carriers and rjs.

I don't know about the others, but as long as a certain pharmaceutical company is willing to pay for the non-stop from RDU to LGW, there will always be a mainline presence there.

Also, FLL seems to always be full from any station that flies there. I know our daily from STL almost always has a healthy to full load.

That doesn't matter to AA! Remember our SJC-TPE? That was started because a certain computer company in the Silicon Valley, was willing to pay for it. Look what happened to that route. GONE!

I worked there in 1996/97 and the ramp had been outsourced to (then) AMR services for about 5 years. Your about 15 years behind the facts on the this one FYI...

My bad regarding PVD. I was told they were still staffed with TWU.

What is your job anyway?

To read this bulletin board and then report activities at your next highly important management meeting?

I guess your job function has been the same even since PlaneBusiness bulletin board days?

How much do they pay to monitor and report from this internet bulletin board?

If I remember my airline history correctly, American was the very first airline to provide commercial air service to Theodore Francis Green State Airport, on or about 1932??

AA abandoned PVD once before with the onset of deregulation in 1979, but returned again in 1983/84. And now, 20 some odd years later, history is repeating itself, albeit a different set of circumstances. Whatever the reason, I think it's a poor decision on AA's behalf, as they really never had a VISION or took advantage of potential opportunities in PVD....oh well...the cycle continues.

Not even close, although I'm sure someone probably is paid to monitor this and some of the other boards like FlyerTalk and TM.

Thanks for your interest in my job -- it has changed a couple times since then, but even then, that wasn't part of my job, despite the fact that CorpComm and Legal had approved my after-hours work with PlaneBusiness.

And yes, this is done on my own time and on my own wi-fi laptops. So you can give up the idea of complaining about misuse of company time and material. It didn't work for you last time, and it won't work this time.
