(Sorry if this has already been covered.)

1. Are both customer service and ramp being outsourced in NW stations?

2. How big/small are the outsourced stations?

3. Who staffs these stations?

Thanks!

Yes. Though in almost all of them, agents were cross-utilized (both customer service and ramp).

2. How big/small are the outsourced stations?

Anywhere from as small as Sioux City Iowa, to as big as San Diego. If the station had 50 or less mainline departures weekly (based on 2005 schedules), then out they go. There's approx. 79 stations closing. There's a thread here that lists the cities, but the dates/vendors have changed around somewhat.

If you would like to know if a specific details about any of the affected cities, PM me or post it here...

3. Who staffs these stations?

Some are being taken over by Pinnacle. Mesaba was slated to take over 13, but that fell through. Air Wisconsin is taking a handful over as well. The balance are being outsourced to WorldWide Flight services, Swissport, and ATS.

Hope this helps...

a freind of my at my city said that they now are being told Jan13 is their last day at ABE but they dont even know if Pinnancle is taking ovver but from what I understand not one of them is staying. Cant blame them. A couple of them are going to commute to PHL which is 65 miles frome ABE. I wish all affected unionized employees the very best in all of the 79 cities being outsourced

Robbed--

There were a few cities whose closing dates were pushed back, ABE being one of them. I *think* the last day is supposed to be Jan. 13th, but I'll have to look and see. NW is having a harder time than previously thought lining up vendors in certain cities.

It seems like the majority of folks (so far) are not following the work to other cities. Out of round 1 (MOT, AUS, and BZN), I think 3 or 4 employees total exercised their seniority into other stations. Round 2 (SDF, CVG,BDL) saw about 8 or 9 exercise as of yesterday.

thanks Kev! wonder what they will do if they cant get a vendor? and when they cry they dont have enough help hey thats on them us is having a hard time keep the new hires in phl and clt treat em like sh!t and sh!t hits em right back by being short which hurts the employees on down

Interesting picture tech... 😉

Do you have any info to go with it (date, location)?

Last week's BUF snow storm. Experienced ground staff would have known to make sure there was enough fuel onboard to prevent that one and the one on the ramp that is not in this picture.

In fairness, these were mainline employees (who have probably forgotten more about snow removal than the rest of know in the first place)....The only problem was almost none of them (if any) could get to the station to stop this from happening.

Having said that-and despite all the kudos from the senior executives about how they handled the recovery once they were able to report-they're being outsourced on the 31st.

Once the vendor is in place, it'll get reaaalll interesting....

Also of the 40 stations staying open with NW employees
37 will be able to have a 50 percent ratio of part timers
working. Full timers can be bumped to enable NW to fill
the quota with 9.00 hour workers.

Fair enough. I stand corrected. My condolensces to the fine BUF ground crew...who will be summarily dismissed.

Actually, it's 38...MEM doesn't count. FT to PT (aka a FT "transition" in NW speak) is already starting down there.

Sad to say Kev, but the only (so called) "safe place" is in DTW/MSP.

That theory rings true also for other carriers, and their Major hubs.

Sorry guys...there is no "safe" place now on the nwa landscape. The fact that DTW rampers were already training their part-time replacements two years ago will tell what is happening to the ramp jobs at nwa. If they can do 50% part-time at out stations then they can do 50% at DTW and MSP. The IAM allowed for part time work and now its going to bite the full timers on the keister. Good luck guys, this is your next fight.
