A Northwest Airlines flight returned to Minneapolis only minutes after takeoff for Pittsburgh last night after the left engine lost power.
Flight 1056 had just reached cruising altitude when the pilot announced the return to Minneapolis. It had departed at 7:10 CDT and was to arrive in Pittsburgh at 10:13 EDT.
When the plane landed it was greeted by emergency crews who found the DC-9 had a fluid leak and locked brakes. Passengers were transferred to the terminal by buses for arrangements for other flights.
