Has anyone been able to find the I.A.M. reps ?
It seems as if they have left the planet ?

This is where they were this week:

Transportation Officers Meet at Winpisinger Center
More than 100 air and rail district and local lodge presidents, recording secretaries and secretary-treasurers convened this week at the IAM William W. Winpisinger Education & Technology Center for the Transportation Department’s initial Principal Officers’ Conference.

“You play a critical role in this Union,â€￾ IP Tom Buffenbarger told the assembled officers, “and we need your help. Union members are under attack in every industry, but we can defend ourselves through aggressive organizing.â€￾

“The grand lodge, district and local lodge officers attending this conference jointly addressed issues which concern everyone, such as organizing new members and mobilizing current members,â€￾ said Transportation General Vice President Robert Roach, Jr. “There is no problem that cannot be resolved for the membership’s benefit by drawing on the collective knowledge and experience we possess.â€￾

Now that is funny, in plain english they are looking how to increase the membership to offset the dues by those members furloughed. Next they will be going after the contract persons that were hired. Not to worry the IAM has time, members just furloughed still have 14 wks of severance from which the IAM can collect dues.

"Collective knowlege and experience" now that a joke!!!!! What the IAM accomplished at USAirways is a joke!!! How to give away the store is what he meant. They talk a good game and that is about it.

At LGA, The I.A.M. is representing local 447, the outsourced utility vendor that replaced the USAirways utility workers March 28th ! I cant believe the I.A.M. would do such a thing but I guess its just another business.

They are most likely meeting to figure out how to make up for all of the lost dues revenue as a result of Outsourced members. I'm sure they will just raise the dues for the unfortunate remaining misrepresented members. Good luck to all, and
Good Riddence to the IAM. They are completley Powerless, and they know it.

First of all the IAM does not choose what vendor the company chooses to do work, second, the IAM represents numerous companies and does not restrict any workers in the transporation industry from wanting to get representation.

Maybe you should learn how things work LGA, before you attempt a slam.

If the IAM was a real union, LOCAL 447 would have refused to do the work of the outsourced utility workers!

Princess,

Please explain to me how the local has contracted with US Airways to have the IAM be the vendor to do the aircraft cleaning.

I am eagerly awaiting your reply.

Guess ALPA and the AFA should refuse to fly for PSA, Mesa, Piedmont and any other express carrier flying routes for US Airways.

Isn't that a conflict in interest. If thats true it sounds like they may have to change their jingle from "strength in numbers" to" we can scab your own "

How is it a conflict of interest?

Since the UAW represents, workers at GM, Chrysler and Ford, the UAW should have their members refuse to build cars at two of the big three automakers?

700 sit back breath deeply If this is true think about it
It would be something like if the company and ALPA agreed to outsourced all of the pilots
and the new vendor that replaced them was a group also represented by ALPA.

Man, you're really touchy about the IAM. Have
you been appointed their public relations
person? You have an unhealthy obsession with
the health and well being of your union.

But the auto workers at the big 3 in the U.S. basically all make the same compensation. They have pattern bargaining. In this case, higher paid IAM members are being replaced by lower paid IAM members. What good does the IAM do for their lower paid members? NOTHING. At these rates, why pay dues to a union if you can make more in a non-union job?The unions (IAM, TWU, IBT, ALPA, AFA, and AMFA) care only about one thing, DUES. And they don't care if you are making a subliving wage which is LOWER than the capitalist "market rate". U can't even get people for the new union negotiated rate. Heck U had to raise that rate to about $9.50 an hour and still can't get people. Conclusion: Unions are now WORTHLESS!

The IAM is a business union that looks after the increase of member$hip.
