P.A. announcement error

I don't get it. There is no more America West so what's their point?

I don't get the wikipedia excerpt either.
But wikipedia is full of inaccurate info.
The way I understand it, info is gathered from anyone who cares to submit.

As far as several posters insisting America West does not exist?
I get two paychecks a month from America West, so I know for a fact they do still exist.

In Reality, it was not an "error". There are many that still think that we ARE owned and operated by AW and make announcements stating such intentionally!

I have heard it many times on the PA by many crewmembers, both front end and back.

Peek A-boo! Why do I feel like I am on Big Brother and just walked into an interview with Julie Chen? I am back from sequester house
OK, so after this last trip I hear from a girl commuting that she is so upset because her only chance to get to work was on West metal. She asked for the jumpseat and introduced herself to the F/O. He asks "are you East or West?" She said nicely, I am US Airways. He stared at her and said....are you East or West? This went on and on and he stated he would have to check with the Captain. She waited and the agent asked what she was still doing in the boarding area. She told them she was waiting on permission for jumpseat. They told her they were closing the door and the agent supervisor got involved. She finally boarded and reintroduced herself to be met with "oh you- I must have misunderstood" and they ignored her for the rest of the flight. She was not sure what to do and never wants to write anyone up. I told her heck, they would write you up and this needs to stop. I also am hearing pilots on the west refusing jumpseat as a safety of flight issue because of the tension. Grow up people.

I have a quick question in regards to the last post by Beachboy. Was this person vying for the jumpseat a pilot or a flight attendant?

The reason why I ask is because if it was a flight attendant, this story does not hold much, if any, merit. Jumpseat requests for flight attendants (regardless if they are east or west) are signed off by the gate agents, not the pilots. Many times, the jumpseating FA boards the aircraft when the pilots are not present, leaves them the form in the FD and heads to the back to claim their jumpseat.

A nice attempt to paint the former "West" flight attendants as being write up happy. Keep up the good work spreading these rumors and hearsay and maybe you will have us in the same boat as our pilots.

It was a F/A and this is not the first person to mention a situation like this. She is filing a report and I have flown with her many times. She was honest and very timid about making waves. Heck, to put up with it they way she did I think says a lot. It happened. you can't make this crap up. We don't play those games on the East I don't know why a few on the West think all is fair game. it gives good people a bad name.

I won't EVEN go into how horrid my experience was on one of my many flights commuting out west by a former HP crew. Actually it was the "A" or whatever they called it back then. Those out west in my view are angered and a bit bitter toward east crews more so than east crews being po'd or rude to a west crew. Hell as an east crew member what would you have to fear? It's nothing new to us (this merger stuff). Oh it certainly DOES happen and those announcements certainly ARE being made on a regular bases by a few. It's ridiculous. Now the whole J/S crap..... I have had quite a few former HP f/a's on our flights that were obviously amazed at how we take care of each other in a sort of "pact" kind of way. You just DON'T make waves that way. I to this day don't understand why people become so crazed between east and west. I mean really "Can't we all just get along"? 🙄

I mean really "Can't we all just get along"? 🙄

Absolutely we can, and from my own personal observations I have noticed a better rapport between East and West crews over the past several months. If one person could only take the time to get to know the others they would find out that we have more in common than we have in differences. Much more, actually.

I have had some great times with my east-coast based crews while they are on layovers here in Phoenix and vice-versa. Some of whom are posters on this forum. When we are together we talk and laugh about how dysfunctional our airlines were in the past and how even more dysfunctional it is now! One thing for sure, there is never any animosity whether on or off the clock.

Perhaps we should have a program similar to that of "Big Brother" and have an East crewmember adopt a West crewmember for a week and show them what we are really made of and rid ourselves of all of these false pretenses between us!

One person can leave a bitter opinion with a poor attitude, but try not to allow it to generalize the whole group.

To beachboy, if your friend's experience was as bad as she said it was I hope that she can just learn to forgive and move on. It should not be that way. If I personally got on a plane with my contractual approved jumpseat and got flak from the pilots as to my past affiliation with the company I would just give him or her a polite "Nunya!" If they aren't happy with that, then I will wait it out for another flight or fly another airline.

A903AW- That's great but when your on your last option to GET TO WORK and take your 4 day trip is that flight and some pilot is screwing around with the rules isn't that BS? Can you image commuting 2000 miles to work to be nice and jerked around because they want to play my pole is longer than you pole issues? It's sick.

May I suggest that your friend take this issue up with AFA Professional Standards. The FA jumpseat is contractually approved by the gate agents. If the Captain of her flight abused his PIC authority and removed her from the jumpseat, or even gave the intimidation of doing so, then it should be addressed.

No one should have any fear of intimidation of jumpseating on any of our aircraft, regardless of who is crewing the flight. I have had to take jumpseats on East metal and have always felt "a part of" and always do the same to any of my colleagues from the East who travel on our aircraft whether for business or pleasure. Working tons of Charlotte flights in the past few months, this has actually been a common occurance for me and I have always enjoyed my down time with them catching up on galley chat! I am working transcons between Philadelphia and the west coast the rest of this month and I am actually looking forward to hopefully meeting more of my East counterparts on my working flights. If they need a jumpseat and there as any problems with the FD such as the incident you described, don't worry, I've got your back!

I'll preface by noting that I do not know the facts of this instance...BUT:

Well...I don't want to ever consider myself as a "radical"..but: I'd think that simply hanging a few of these "gentlemen" from the jetways would serve to bring about eventual harmony on the jumpseats  For ANY/ALL west-folk?: NONE of you will EVER be subjected to this kind of childish, arrogant, clueless, pathetic BS on ANY aricraft I'm ever priveledged to fly...and..umm...errr..You just might want to finally GROW UP...at least a little, teeny-tiny bit...and get over yourselves. 🙄 If you think that "safety" is, in ANY way "compromised" by an unwelcome guest on any jumpseat?...then...your lives have been amazingly "sheltered"..and I'd fully hate to see you squirm, flounder, and "Cry for Mommy!"... pathetically, in ANY real emergency. If that's your idea of a "safety issue" than..keep your "training wheels" on for life...since you then fully deserve them. If you can't even offer basic courtesy to fellow workers...you're not even worth even a moment's time wasted considering you as being even supposedly "pilots"....PERIOD...Whatta' bunch of pathetic WIMPS!. Umm..I'd speak my full mind..but..I try to "sugarcoat" a bit for public boards...😉

Seriously though: to any/all ever afflicted by such tawdry BS...there's a branch, aka "Professional Standards" , and Chief Pilot's offices, within the pilot system, that should serve to answer your issues. I've ZERO time for "teenagers" impersonating "professional pilots"....PERIOD!!...and..It need not EVER be tolerated, by anyone.
