I figure I'll probably be flying more to and through Philadelphia in the near future so would like to ask the following question of those that work in Philly who are carnivores:

Who has the best cheesesteak in Philly. I'm familiar with Gino's, Pat's and Jim's, but figure I'm probably missing some that are better and perhaps less touristy. Between the three I mentioned I lean toward Pat's (mainly because of the roasted chili peppers they have on the counter).

(Mr. Moderator, if this is an out of line post please redirect)

No more out of line than the Word Association topic that is in it's 33rd page. Enjoy the topic, and I look forward to the answers as well when I get back into that neck of the woods.

Although I work in ABE I have had the pleasure of enjoying a 6 in cheesesteak sub from some of the restaurants. I think that there is a restaurant in either b or c concourse that has some of PHLLY's BEST cheese steaks!

funny! 😀 🙄

the onyl thing wrong with the photo is it dont have a cheese steak!

I aint much of fish eater as i dont like fish!!!!!!

About midway down C, on the left, across from Sbarro. Don't know the name, but they do a great cheesesteak. Best. Greeter.

Actually Jim's is considered the best in PHL. The ones in the airport are not to shabby either.
Yeah, the only downside to Jim's (at least when I went there) was that the roasted chili peppers were kept in oil, so they didn't have the crunch or pure flavor of the ones at Pat's. I DO like the chop up the steak there though. Still have to think there's others than the "big three".

(PB, I almost reposted you from March '04 which was the only mention of Philly CZheesesteaks I saw mentioned on this board - figured it would be cleaner to just start anew. - BTW, Welcome home!)

😀 Bass is one of the best, but I'll take a Philly Cheese over Bass anyday!

Without a doubt the best cheessteak in PHL is at Tony Lukes in South Philly.
This place is one of the most popular hoagie/steak places in the city, and its one of the few places that is mainly a place for us locals to enjoy without all the tourists.
The roll here is pure heaven. The two best sandwiches are the chicken cheesteak and the roast pork sandwich with brocolli rabe and shaved parmesean. Pure heaven!

Can't wait to try one! Thanks for the tip.

Some local links:

Dellasandros is a constant favorite in the Roxborough section of Philly.

It is all about the roll, however. The rest is meaningless....That's why you can never duplicate a Philly Cheesesteak outside of Philly! It's those Amoroso rolls (or other local versions).

What a great link!! Thanks!

You're right about the roll - closest we ever came to a good one here in Tidewater was when a guy brought them in fresh everyday from Philly - they were good (but still not quite the same).

I hope ORF keeps some big jets; I'm not going to fit into the seat of the commuter's anymore.

Just in case you decide to take a trip further afield, White House Subs in Atlantic City is world famous. Bill Cosby had 'em on his sitcom, touting them as the best, shunning his hometown!

The steaks and subs are all great, and the walls are covered with celebrity photos enjoying them. It's always filled with tourists and locals alike.
