Mrs. Obama will visit the downtown Barnes & Noble store located at 555 12 St. NW, at E St. On Friday, June 8th, those wishing to attend the event must purchase a copy of the First Lady’s book at the location (for $19.20) and leave it at the store, according to the employee. At the same time, customers must also submit their social security number and show an officialphoto ID (driver’s license, passport) to a Secret Service agent, and they will be issued a wristband to attend the First Lady’s event on June 12. Book sales and wristbanding begin at 9:00 AM on June 8.

If it's a good policy for seeing the First Lady, shouldn't it be a policy when casting a ballot to elect the First Lady's spouse?...

Did you ever consider the fact that all this hoopla about minorities being disenfranchised by having to produce photo ID most likely are recipients of entitlement freebies?
And I bet when they applied for those freebies, they coughed up Photo ID in a heartbeat.

If you have to show ID to open a bank account then you have to show ID to vote. Simple concept. Unless of course you're one of those snot encrusted, maggot beriddled, ear ring wearing Liberal, commie types

Are either of those a right mentioned in the COTUS?

One is a security matter and the other is a voting rights/disenfranchisement issue.

Hmmm. My son is a Marine. Chosing who his boss is going to be is a security matter.

Chosing who gets to carry the nuclear arsenal football is a security matter...

If you can't drive a car, open a bank account, get on an airplane, check into a hospital, or cash a welfare check without a photo ID, then just exactly who is being disenfranchised?

I keep hearing that argument, but you can't conduct everyday life without photo ID of some form. Exactly who is being disenfranchised?

GOOD point as usual .......Tree.
I can't seem to find the word Identification in the COTUS either.

"IT" only matters, when the you-know-who-party....wants it to matter !

As I understand the legislation the Voter ID bill only addresses voter impersination fraud of which there have been very few convictions. Not nearly enough to swing any type of election.

The number of people who would be disenfranchised is quite large by most estimates. Why these people do not have ID I do not know but they do not and they have a constitutional right to vote.

The voter fraud that the right is talking about will not be addressed by the legislation. The legislation will be disenfranchising mainly minority voters.

The people who do not have IDs are probably not driving cars, do not have bank accounts (no or little money so why have one),... so I am pretty sure it is not those people who are being disenfranchised.

Choosing a president (or any elected official) is a right afforded by the COTUS to every citizen of the US.

actually, it was a WWII vet, survivor or D-Day, that the great state of OHIO denied voting rights to....His "VA" id didnt have an address on it. (address must be a way for the rt wing to isolate the Homeless, and deny them the rt to vote) VA id's dont have an address, he gave up his drivers liscense voluntarily dur to his percieved diminished cognitive skills.....wish that was a law, deminished cognitive skills, not many repugs would be voting then,,,

Nice....dissallowing one of your own, Ill bet when one of your own daughters gets pregnant with the baby you dont want, ooops, its off to the state that allows abortion!!

What a bunch of hippacrits....i regret having to supplyinsurance to you under obama care....wish you could opt out, till you or a loved one had an illness.....love to say, sorry!! no preexisting conditions....so sorry for youuuuuuu!! HEHEHEHE

And if you do some checking, probably are on public assistance and showed ID to get on that.
Or just flat out don't vote.

That's because you're both idiots.

I refer you to the Tenth Amendment (Amendment X) to the United States Constitution, which is part of the Bill of Rights, was ratified on December 15, 1791. The Tenth Amendment states the Constitution's principle of federalism by providing that powers not granted to the federal government nor prohibited to the States by the Constitution are reserved to the States or the people.

The above is pretty clear. We have no national ID card because of this Amendment. All of the voter, Driver's License and such are administered by the 50 states. just like Motor Vehicle Safety Inspection. 38 states have it, 12 don't. The requirement for voters to provide a government issued ID is at the descretion of the states. The above is also the legal basis for overturning the Individual mandate portion of ObamaCare. Romney could require a mandate because he was Governor of ONE state not the Federal Government.

No ones civil rights are being violated.

Says the Master Idiot. No one is disputing the states right to issue ID. The issue is whether to not the issuance of ID's conflicts with the 14th amendments right to vote.

I would have thought that if you are going to insult people you would at least get your facts right.

By the way, the SS card and US PP are a form of national ID issued by the Fed.

Wow, you are correct. My passport was issued by the United States of America, not any state. And it is the highest form of identification.

"What is a U.S. Passport:
Your U.S. passport identifies you as a U.S. citizen or a U.S. national."
