Piedmont Closes 2 More Crew Bases

I'll confess my ignorance - what does that leave?

I would have to guess at this, but here it goes..
MDT, LGA, SBY....

What does that mean for the rest of us? Are they planning on increasing service out of our other bases or does this mean furlough? If they are shutting down bases one can only think that they are going to park planes back in the desert and give all of our flying to Air Wisconsin. I don’t understand why management doesn’t see what value we are to the airline. What a shame and things were getting much better.

Or it could simply be a determination that nine crewbases for a regional airline with 55 aircraft (that's 6 planes per base) is way, way too many, and that it would be simpler and cheaper to consolidate operations?

Remember what Doug Parker said in the employee Q&A about not being able to see PHX, PHL, CLT, DCA, LGA, PIT and BOS as all being crewbases for mainline once the operations are merged? That should have been a clue as to what would be down the line for the wholly-owneds...

OK, so CLT is closing. That leaves EWN just 220 miles away. PHF is all of 99 miles away from SBY. Makes sense to me to consolidate.

Still have SYR, LGA, MDT, SBY, EWN ,CHO , ROA. Closures due to lack of overnighting A/C at CLT and PHF. If no ON A/C, they dont want to have a base for economic reasons. Other crew bases will pick up the flying. EWN increased by 3 lines, other bases are as well. Just reshuffling everything. PDT will get more 100's and 300's to offset loss of 200's. Not a big deal. PDT will have a niche for the foreseeable future.

Actually Piedmont has 53 airframes, with another Dash 8 to go bye-bye, and they're working on picking up a replacement to keep the fleet at 53.

I'm hearing rumors that they are looking at replacing some of the -100s with -300B's. (although I'm told they only diff between the 300A and 300B is the main landing gear goes straight down at a 90 angle vs leaning forward a couple of degrees)

Thanks, chichi. I sorta thought that might be the reason - base the crews where the planes overnite and most of them are home every nite. Less hotel rooms to pay for.

'Course, I didn't want to say so and look stupid when I was wrong.....

😳

You are exactly correct!

Piedmont is taking over the PSA base at HTS.

Just to get the info straight, HTS is a PSA run station, I believe that PDT will be taking over station operations. There aren't any crews based there for PSA or PDT.

Isnt the PSA rampers ibt represented?
