Pilots dislike US Airways merger

US Airways CEO Doug Parker was in Charlotte Thursday morning. He worries the pilots' unrest could hurt airline performance. "I hope it gets worked out and I will do everything we can to get it worked out," said Parker.

P.S. The solution is fences, shared growth, shared scope protections, and a new joint contract, which I believe would calm not only Doug Parker's but everybody's worries that "the pilots' unrest could hurt airline performance."

Too bad the East and West pilots didn't negotiate just such an agreement before submitting their dispute to binding arbitration. Now, some of the parties desire a "do-over."

Just how frequently are arbitration awards set aside?

I believe the Nicolau Award can stand and be implemented; however, for this to occur within the next 10 year's there must be agreed upon fences, and then shared growth, shared scope protections, and a new joint contract.

If not then let de-certification of ALPA East and ALPA West happen, the AWA MEC begin Section VI negotiations, probably mediation, and potentially a 30-day cooling off period and strike with about 3,100 pilots represented by another union (probably the Teamsters) who with their lower cost contract could encourage "whip saw".

Meanwhile, the East piltos will maintain all of the growth benefits of their attrition and potential "whip sawing".

Be careful what you wish for. I've seen my previous airline "whip saw" both ways. With a bunch of pilots at the bottom of the West pay scale I am not too sure that you really have the lower cost contract in the East.

I understand what you are saying however I don't agree with your logic. You can most certainly begin you decert process but don't think you are are going to have one big happy family. The west simply won't be dictated to! So now you wish to bring in a 4th party throw them under the bus into an immediate DFR lawsuit why?? Because you are unhappy with the game you agreed to play? CM this makes no sense what so ever and we are leaveing money on the table with each passing day.

We need to get paid and get paid now before the economy changes yet again.

Will the last pilot standing remember to turn the light out before he/she leaves? At the rate things are going, I know I won't be around to "enjoy" that flight.

thats an excellent question USA320. If fences and shared growth were the such a good idea, why was this not your position going into arbitration?

Shared growth remember you guys F&&Ked us on the B757 and the 190's.

Maybe not.

What if the economy gets better? Would you wish to lock in a pay rate, without look-backs or re-examination? Do you feel, lucky?

Please explain.

Also, please explain how, had we an agreement, that anyone would have been, um, noodled?

The East DID offer fences, Nicolau just didn't use any!
Below is just the NB fence. The fence is around Cap.
positions each side brought to the table. West would
allways have those Cap. seats to bid forever. Growth Cap positions would have been shared.

<<<<Positions as captain on the B737/A320 aircraft, or replacement aircraft, shall
be allocated as with the B767/757-D captain positions, except that the quotas
shall be 914 and 782 for the pre-merger US Airways and America West pilots,
respectively, and the ratio for positions above or below the combined quota of
1,696 shall be five-to-four. A worksheet for the allocation accounting on
these positions is attached as Appendix B.>>>>>>
