Busy helping the teamsters dilute the AMFA card drive? Just a guess since they provided all of our emails and addresses to the ibt.

TWU Intl is attempting to get the SWA mechanics to sign cards so that they will switch to the TWU..

Don V. and Vanderloo are also trying to straighten out the rif mess they created with out first getting the seniority
issues handled.

They also have not got the time to deal with all the vacancies around the system.

I bet they will have time for their Holiday Parties though.

Paul if you have not signed an AMFA card yet then find one and help us rid AA of the TWU

I was told by an APFA chairperson that each union will be invited to the talks one by one. The pilots are first because they have the most complex seniority issues.

I'm sure the TWU is more concerned about their unsuccessful drive at WN. They are more concerned about maintaining dues and see the membership as expendable.

Trust me, you don't want to be there.......there is nothing but idiots involoved in that discussion, like the analysts who say Delta buying VA strengthens their position in NYC, and thus putting pressure on AA to merge with US....

I'm sorry, how does the merger help AA in NYC? Its scary when someone who is considered an "analyst" can have such a BLATANT disregard of the facts. If I was a TWU member, and I saw this merger go thru after already getting screwed once this year on my contract, I would be spend more time sending out resumes then I would working.

Everyone is about to piss away any reason for the cuts everyone just took........stupid is as stupid does.

Cheers,

Can I have an AMEN from the choir? Who in their right mind would suggest that LCC has anything in NYC that AA needs? How many slots do they have at LGA now? 2? 3?

Several things:

1. Why would you want the most worthless union sending its stooges to a meeting like that anyway? Hasn't the TWU agreed to give up enough on your behalf already?

2. The pilots are there because they have a claim worth 13.5% of the new AMR, which could easily be worth more than $100k each, on average. The TWU, on the other hand, has a claim worth 4.8% spread across almost three times as many employees, which might be worth $10k to $15k per TWU-represented employee, on average. Simply put, the pilots have some real skin in the game. The TWU? They have no real influence.

3. A merger affects the pilots' seniority and possibly affects their pay in potentially huge ways. The TWU? A merger increases the pay of AA's mechanics, according to Bob Owens (AA's are the lowest paid, he says). So for the mechanics, just hope there's a merger and you'll get a small raise out of it. But you don't need to send Little and his gang of idiots to give away more of what you have.

When AA filed its Ch 11 petition, I posted that one of the worst things that could happen to AA's mechanics would be that the TWU would be their bargaining agent in bankruptcy. And I don't think there's any debate about it - I was right. Not only did you have the worthless union "negotiating" on your behalf in bankruptcy, now you have the worthless union "representing" you in a possible merger. The quotation marks were intentional.

Sad but true.

It is as if we are always standing around with a gun to our own head screaming "one more step and stupid gets it"!

Regarding lowest paid according to a pay scale passed out here at work today I hate to say it but usair mechs make less than us. They will be getting a raise in this merger while we get crap! Thanks TWU and thanks tul. Btw tul has two years left after the merger thanks to the agreement the TWU made with usair. So if your in Tulsa start packing

Pilots can make or break a merger.
Can't say the same for mechanics,
Flight attendants and other work groups.

Pay is more than the wage.
Benefits, Pension, Holidays, Vacation. Sick time etc

Just look at vacation. No matter how many years you have at AA you get one week less vacation and a lot less Holiday pay than USAIR gets.

Add in just the value of the vacation and Holidays and USAIR is still ahead of us. Having to work that extra week is the equivelent of a 65 cent/hr paycut. The loss of Holiday pay and 5 holidays is more than double that coming in at aroung $1.63/hr. So in real terms you have to subtract $2.26 an hour from our pay to make up for those two concessions that we gave that USAIR kept through two rounds of BK.

We are pretty close to becoming per diem workers without the per diem premiums.

I do agree that the merger of the two bottom feeders forning the biggest carrier in the country is something none of us should look forward to. The only positive is that with the merger could come an opportunity for a new agreement, the question is who will be negotiating it, the TWU, the IAM or whoever collects enough cards?

Vacation is one thing that LCC employees have been adept at keeping. As I understand it, LCC East flight attendants top out at something like 36 vacation days/year and LCC West flight attendants (still under last America West contract) top out at 45 vacation days/year!!! It's one of the reasons that the last f/a TA was voted down. The LCC West f/as would have lost 9 days down to the same max vacation as LCC East.

My numbers may not be absolutely correct (I was talking in passing with an LCC East f/a I know), but both East and West top out at more vacation than AA f/as.
